The Cherrie Corner

I'm just posting up this section for the Cherries like me who have questions for the old guys who have been in the S#%t for a while. It's just for if we have questions on gear history any other Nam questions for us new guys to the Nam. I have asked questions before and alot of guys were willing to help me.

I have my basic load out done but I'm looking for small additions for my kit any suggestions?

Spike March 4th, 2013 09:11

What does your kit currently include?

The Keiichione March 4th, 2013 09:11

What is your basic loadout ? USMC, Army, LRRP ?
EDIT : Damn you, spike !

Renegade) March 4th, 2013 09:25

What role are you going for? Grunt? Specific impression?

As they asked, what does your current kit consist of, what era?

Im going for a grunt look, the unit I want to.base my kit off is the 23rd infantry americals. So far I have my boots, helmet, 56 webbing with 67 suspenders 1911 holster 4 mag bandoyler, 3 m14 pouches, first aid/compass pouch, 1911 mag pouch, 2 canteens, entrenching tool, bayonet, claymore bag, head wrap, bonnie, carabiner, and last but not least my flak vest. The small accessories i added so far were period aviators, foot powder, sewing kit. And bug juice. Weapons I have that will fit into my Nam theme kit are my KWC 1911A1, WE M16VN, Kraken AK47, and on order my M60. Thats what I have I also have a period shit and newer od pants but I will get a new set with all the proper patches and name tape. The era I'm going for is roughly 68-70 or so. I have been told I am set up better than most cherries.

The Keiichione March 4th, 2013 23:14

If you are going for a grunt, 2 M56 pouch are enough.

I don't think I saw photos of grunts wearing custom webbing. They pretty much had it to the "standard"

also : I see in your kit listing, you didn't include a buttback. It's almost essential for a army grunt kit IMO.

Sweet thx skeletor, I jumped on the flak vest because it was a really good price and right now everything is just set up for games when it comes down to me doing reenactments I'll be ditching some equipment off it.

The buttpack is common in some photos, but not for others. Depends on unit SOPs, type/length of patrol, etc. I've seen photos of guys on patrol just going out with 1-2 bandoleers. Also, have you seen many photos of 23rd Div guys wearing flak vests?

If you are going for a grunt look, don't use the AK47, stick with the M16 and M60. Unless you are playing as a M60 gunner, ditch the 1911. Only photos of grunt riflemen I've seen with a pistol were dudes about to go into a tunnel(either a Tunnel Rat or regular Infantryman)

Here's a 23rd Infantry Division Facebook group, scan through the photos and look at their gear.

Not specifically uniform related, but does anybody know where to find proper A&K M60 flash hider's? My M60 didn't come with the right one and it just feels... wrong.

Also, any links to M60 Bipods/yokes? My yoke broke in the field after a day. All places I've seen have been sold out/prohibitively expensive.

EDIT: Also on my fatigues, I have a Field Force II patch. Is this accurate for any combat units? I'm aware that a number of units such as the 101st operated under Field Force II, but I'm not sure if wearing the patch is accurate for any infantry impressions. Any help is appreciated.

Hey guys FNG here I am working on putting together a uniform for the 173 airborne (70's onward), I was looking at the second package on this page http://www.mooremilitaria.com/packages.htm I was just wondering about what type of rank I should get, the subdued Sleeve Rank or Subdued Pin On Rank?

There is a lot of info here :

Mostly in french (use Google shit translator, you'll at least have an idea), but lots of pictures of some of our gear.

Borealis has an airborne impression somewhere in there. Most picture links are in the first post, compiled by Mart83.

Last Vietnam op in Quebec, June 1st 2013, with lots of pictures :

The Boss AAR, in character, lots of "vintage" pics :

We even had a thunderstorm, heavy rain and high humidity to add to the feeling.

Nice to see more players going for this theme.
