If price is an issue, go with the KWA.
If price is of no issue, go VFC.

Personally, I am presently considering either a VFC Scar (tan) or the VFC M4 SOPMOD........but not a KWA, even though I can get a KWA M4 for $400.

VFC internals needs some work, notably the piston head and cylinder head, along with an O-ringed Airseal nozzle.

Everything else is absolutely perfect.

I bought the VFC Sopmod just recently. It's a nice AEG. Haven't opened her up yet but I will soon. I believe that the VFC Sopmod is from their new lineup of M4 E series. So any review about any M4 E series would work I believe.

LOL...like I said, they're "identical to KWA internals". So yeah, the first thing I would switch out is the piston for a full steel rack and ditch the aluminum piston head for a poly carb one.....and voila, one sweet, hot gun that will last.
As for the nozzle, I haven't come across any air leak issues air.

My challenge is that each time I land on a gun I am interested in to meet my criteria of 'rocks out of the box' and 'no tinkering', an issue is presented...(sigh)

I was liking the SRC Gen3 G36, but someone on here got a real lemon...

Then I noticed the VFC SOPMOD M4 -- also looked tasty, but am now hearing it needs work out of the box...

(sigh)

Whats a non mechanically inclined newb to do (buy)?

These guns rock out of the box, the 'tinkering' 'recommended' by these guys is COMPLETELY unnecessary. Yes, it will perform better with the suggested upgrades, but they aren't REQUIRED for the gun to kick ass. Whats a noob to do? Buy something, use it, get it fixed if it breaks. And if it works, DON'T FUCK WITH IT. (until you are no longer a noob)

(internets opinions may be inaccurate as well, be it by bias, a bad sample or experience with a lemon)

A mechanically inclined n00b is still a n00b. Before you rip the sheit out of your gun, watch a few videos, read a few articles... ask a few experienced people what if anything they would do. I'm with Wrath on this question.

Also there is lots fo Lipo battery's just google it. Also here is a good charger for 60$

Also any pouch that can fit 2 m4 mags or a Double M4 pouch will fit one g36 mag.

Also if you are new to the sport I would but a regular battery eg. NICD, NIMH. Unless you read up on them first. There are lots of good threads on this forum about Lipo's
A 9.6v battery should be fine in it.

Also: the KWA G36C has the large foregrip, which can hold a large NiMH battery. This negates any reason to get a Lipo, other than the weight factor. The voltage difference between the two chemistries are negligible (voltage doesn't affect your ROF as much as current), what really matters is the current it can provide. It is true that Lipo's can output much more current than NiMH, but using a large battery the difference is negligible once again. The motor only takes what it needs (in very simple terms), so at stock mechbox settings you probably won't even notice a difference between a similar voltage Lipo and large NiMH cell battery ROF.
In my opinion Lipos are a pain in the ass, and would much rather use a large battery if given the option.
(large NiMH cell = Sub-C cell, generally 3000mah or greater)

I'm newer to the scene and I am going to be buying an AK type AEG, I have the money for it but don't want to end up with something not worth it, anyone have any tips for me so I know what I'm looking for. I want something reliable meaning I won't have to buy another for a long time.
