Gun Problem related to hopup

yes hello its me again, and im aware that im still under age. I dont go shoot my friends I shoot targets in my basement

Ok, I seem to have a slight problem with my M4A1. While shooting my target, i've noticed that the bb, starts to curve up very quick, right before it hits the target, my red dot sight, that came with the gun, is sighted in, i've heard about somthing called hop-up? could this be the problem? because i've noticed when I pull back on this loading thing, at the top, it makes a little flap open, and when I pull it all the way back, it shows this little wheel type thing.

Any help would be nice thanks.

EDIT: I've just noticed, that this might not be the right place for this post, if its not can a staff member move it please.

that little wheel thing is your hop up, turning it will adjust a little nib that places pressure on your BB adjust it accordingly to get rid of the odd flight paths

The wheel like thing is your hop up adjustment dial. A hop up places back spin on your BB, if the hop up is set to high the back spin will cause the BB to curve upwards. Adjust the dial until your BB's are flying straight again. That should fix your issue.

Edit.

I'll leave this thread here as other new users name find it useful later on down the road.

When you change your BB weight you will require to readjust your hop up dial.

Those will most likely damage your hop-up rubber.

I would avoid using them

they have a tendency of shattering the shards cut your rubber shredding it which basically makes your gun useless until you replace the rubber

Because they're REALLY cheap and very poorly manufactured. Don't ever buy ammo from walmart, and don't ever buy .12s, they're too light for any gun that costs over $250

ouch. Just a question, my friend has a gun, hes also underage, but he runs around in his backyard any way( i tryed to tell him its against the law but some people have hard heads) and he said theres two types of bio bb's Green BB and White BB, and that the green are just recycled plastic, and that white just disolve into the ground. Is this true or not?

Edit: I only use my gun for shooting targets, and I dont plan on using it for a game, its a clearsoft, and from wal-mart

Some very cheap BBs often have seams that can tear your rubber hop up sleeve as well. The sleeve serves two purposes, it seals the barrel and nozzle together (the BB gets pressed through it by the nozzle), that can tear resulting in high drop in velocity. It also puts variable (user adjustable) pressure on the top of the BB to give it the backspin, this is a thicker chunk of rubber so it's less likely to rip or tear from a seam on the BB, but will still show damage after many crappy rounds passing by it.

No that's just retarded. Your friend is just making shit up and unless he has scientific evidence to back up that claim then don't believe him (and if he does tell him to contact a scientific journal and publish).

They're the same pretty much just different colours. The plastic will disintegrate yes, but it'll take about 3000 years give or take for it to even start degrading.

What ends up happening is the BB's just sink into the ground so you can't see it. Ask him to dig up a soil sample from the backyard or whatever and see what you find. Props to him if he can dig so that you can see the stratigraphic profile of the soil in the backyard.
