Thumbs up Newbie Questions.

Hi, my name is Jon. I'll admit that I am quite young. And I have some questions to ask.

1. I'm almost 14, would I be able to partake in airsoft games if a parent is with me?

2. I am curious as to what site sells the best airsoft guns for cheap. I've checked 007 Airsoft but most of the guns are $300-$500 each. Which can get very pricey.

I will post more questions when I think of them.

Airsoft is a 18+ sport (on a side note, fill out your profile, so we can direct you correctly. some ranges allow 16 year olds play with parents)
Sniping is not for newbies
If you are underage please do not try to circumvent the system in place, its there for a reason.
Nobody will help you get a gun if you are not age verified or underage
Do not play in your backyard/forest or anything of the like. Only play on official fields.
Please read the FAQ’s

Hi Jon.

1. It is rather rare for players as young as yourself to be allowed to play. Airsoft in Canada is a predominantly 18+ sport. The less common exceptions made for minors are usually for those between 15-17, and often requires a parent not only to be present, but also play. Many regions completely forbids minors from playing at all, regardless of parents.

2. Airsoft is not a cheap activity. $300+ is the minimum requirement for a basic gun. Real airsoft is to what you see at Canadian Tire or WalMart a BMX bike is to a tricycle. You should not consider airsoft unless you can afford to invest in reliable equipment, as cutting corners generally leads to disappointment. Since you're only 14, I would recommend you save up for the time being.

I already knew that, to be quite honest.

I wouldn't. I take airsoft in a fun, but serious manner.

So, I have to be 16 to play with my parent or guardian? Oh Snap. I'll go set my age to my actual age.

First off, at 14, you won't be allowed to play anyware. 16 maybe, with a parent, depending on the game host.

Second, airsoft guns cost $300 - $500. It's not a cheap hobby. Yea, there are a couple of brands that make cheaper ones (in the $150 range), but most people who have played for a long time will tell you they're not worth the cost. Keep in mind ontop of that, you also need batteries, a good charger, boots, eye protection, BDU's, etc. The generally accepted number to get into airsoft is about $1,000. It can be done for cheaper -I know of some who have done it for ~$600-ish, but 1k is generally accepted as the norm. And no, this isn't "elitist" BS... it's a cold, hard fact. I'll say it again: airsoft is NOT a cheap hobby.

So, start saving now, and in 2 years you'll have enough to kit yourself out.

Don't be discouraged, you're a lot nicer/seem more mature than some underage newbies that join the site and get butthurt when we tell them to wait, and we like that. Take the advice and you'll be welcomed with open arms when you become of age to participate in games in your local region (you won't have your hand held but most of us will be open to playing with someone who actually took the time and waited patiently to be able to play).

PS: I can attest to this, I was around 15/16 when I joined and "chairsofted" for about 4 years before actually playing actively.

Sounds Good. I'm gonna save up to buy at good gun in 2-3 years. I already have a BB Gun, A "Daisy Buck 105" but it probably doesn't compare at all to the ones used in airsoft. I was talking to some kid at school a couple days ago, and he claimed that he has been playing airsoft for 2 years. I now know that he is lying.

I was going to get this gun: AEG M4 on duty kit.

Buuuuuut, I think I'll wait.
Also, I'm 13, but I'm turning 14 in April.

Ahhh.... gotta love kids. If he's been playing for "2 years" then chances are he won't be welcomed into the "adult games" when he becomes of age.

It's not necessarily that airsoft is 18+, but for the purposes of being in Canada we adopt an 18+ rule because that's when if you do something you become personally liable and can't hide behind your parents and the YCJA.

In the Philippines there is actually a 6 year old who shoots IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation, which is real steel competition shooting). As well because of the culture over there (and Asia in general) there is an onus to not do stupid things like what happens in "the west" (ie. like minors or retarded "college frat boys" shooting paintball or airsoft in the public, the "college frat boy" will be charged as an adult and have real firearms related charges laid on them but a minor can hide behind the YCJA and the soccer moms will try and ban paintball and airsoft as a knee jerk reaction because of one incident). This is why we as a community adopt a blanket 18+ rule with exceptions on a case by case basis (in certain communities) for 16+. Usually it will be the parent/guardian is an active player and the minor is the son/nephew of the player or the parent staying for the day (we're not a daycare and I'm pretty sure a lot of parents wouldn't like their kid hanging around some of us). I only know of one place where the parent can drop off the kid and do whatever and pick them up at the end of the day but the parent must have a chat with the admin running the day and come to an agreement.

Jon welcome to asc

i was 13 -14 and lurked the forms until about a few years ago
iam 16
and as a person still waiting and having a goal of 1 game a year. my own advice, if you are realy seriouse into airsoft is

1: buy the best dam googles you can afford *saves time*
2: Start a saving like put 20$ a month from your allowance into your future airsoft fund, *It adds up*
3: be on ASC at least once a day or five times every hour *Ahem*
4: Try to get to know people in your area, as they may be able to guide you into airsoft faster, possibly holding there guns later down the road.
5: Practise safe gun handling *you got at least 2 years to master this*
6: Try and research all possible airsoft company's etc
7: To fuful your desire for airsoft on a daily basis Search *soutthedoggie* on youtube. He makes great videos with plenty of action

the most importain rule of all!

1: Don't airsoft in public space, don't do stupid stuff , and be safe

If you weren't already aware, BB guns and airsoft guns are not the same thing at all.

So basically, you enforce the 18+ rule because you don't want some kid to cry and hide behind their mothers, and yet the Mothers can't do anything about it. I'm not against that rule, I'm just absorbing the information provided at a level I can understand more. Not to seem retarded, or anything. Also, I may be rambling on for no reason, probably because of how late it is.

EDIT: Sorry I can't respond to everyone's posts at once, lol.
Also, NoGear, I'll search soutthedoggie, but I usually watch a guy named pvtsnowman. He makes some good airsoft reviews.

I'mma go to YouTube right now. I got a cravin'.

18+ is acountable for your actions

under 18 can go shoot a car and the parrents take the punishment

if under 18. kid does something bad with airsoft above happens +other Mothers may be CONCERNED about this type of sport being SAFE

I just realized... I have $120, And from now 'till I'm 16 I will save up and save up and save up. Buy a gun, ammo, goggles, and possibly a camo vest + pants.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I can't wait to play in the future.
