Question.....

Hello and good day to all, The other day I was looking into paintballing and getting loaded up with a whole sniper kit and looking into the different type of guns and such and was ready to make the move and buy into it when all of a sudden on youtube I caught a clip of this sport taken in Scotland. And all I can say is WOW..It looked so real and the men playing it were really into it and then I saw how real a sniper roll would be like without the air tank and full mask thus using a spring type rifle. My questions are these...

Playing this roll of a sniper is a spring type rifle the best way to play the roll?

Using a spring type rifle how does it range to other rifles/guns?

Is a spring type rifle the only way to play the roll of a sniper?

What clubs are in Ontario? I am from Toronto Ont

What stores are there in the GTA that I myself can go to and talk face to face with someone?

What is the FPS in a game? I see that no more than 407FPS is allowed? Is this true? anything over can get you in trouble with the law?

Do the BB'S dip over a long distance? 100' 150' 200'+ Thus harder to hit someone while being a sniper?

What is the AVG range of a spring type rilfe? Does a longer barrle give you more range?

I see and read that the airsoft guns in Canada have to be clear? or part of them have to be clear? Can someone give me the REAL story behind this? I have soo many more questions but at least this will get me started in learning this game.

Thank you all soo much....

come on, be nice guys, he asked intelligent questions, not stupid questions like some other retards, help him out, don't flame!

I would strongly discourage sniping as a first choice of gameplay style
get yourself a cheap electric rifle and have some fun, a stock sniper rifle will have the same range and accuracy as an electric gun, but single shot instead of full automatic

Before I answer anything at all, please see this thread before continuing on.

http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=92478

In the future your thread title maybe edited, possibly to something that you may or may not like.

Moving along to the topic at hand. Many players will discourage you from playing the role of a sharp shooter due to the fact that you will be out gun by those who have AEGs, however I will let you make the decision for yourself.

In short, high quality spring guns are found to be the most consistent.

Of course not, there are also AEG based sniper rifles, gas based rifles as well as converted from AEG to single shot style DMR guns as well.

There are a few, they are listed here on this website if you know where to look.
There is a sniper clinic being run in the next couple of months that you maybe interested in looking at.

Not many due to the nature of airsoft in Canada, but there are a few. I will leave the names and locations left to those more familiar with the area.

FPS rules differ by the host of the game and region. For example, in my are we play CQB with only guns that are less than 350. While outdoors our AEGs can go all the way up to 425 and bolt actions up to 470ish I believe. For future reference FPS is based on using the weight of 0.2g BBs. Airsoft in general can get you in trouble with the law if you go out in public brandishing it like a fool. As for FPS any FPS would deem an airsoft gun a firearm would be to hot to use an airsoft game anyways.

Yes, BBs do begin to drop after a certain distance. This is countered by a device called a hop up, essentially what this part does is it puts a backspin on the BB allowing it to travel a farther distance unhindered. Using a heavier BB will also attribute to greater distanced shorts, however you will have reduced FPS.

Thats hard to say, due to so many varying brands and quality. Ignoring low end guns entirely, lets take a Tokyo Marui made VSR, stock out of the box. We should expect this item to be performing around 290-300FPS with a .2g bb. Lets say 30-40 meters max effective range. Lets take a fully upgrade maruzen APS2 shooting 480FPS with a 0.2. Instead of using a 0.2g BB we swap a 0.3g BB in its place, with hopup we should be able to have an effective range of 60-70meters now.

They are not required to be clear, the only reason why they are clear is that they are required to have their respective restricted receiver part be clear for importation.
I could carry on but my fingers are tired and Im sure you have many more questions. However before you post anything else I recommend you refer to this section first. Its the Frequently asked question section, also known as the FAQ. It should have almost all if not all the answers to the questions you may have.

PS
There were other posts in this thread, however they were useless and uninformative, so I deleted them. Useless posts have been a poor trend as of late. If no one has anything useful to add then STFU and GTFO.

Yes and no. With a BASR (Bolt Action Sniper Rifle) vs an AEG the AEG will tend to win. That being said the BASR allows you to run with a higher velocity (after being trusted or passing the BASR course) and the MED's are very stringent.

A BASR vs an AEG it's the same range. Only when you dump about $1000 (on top of the initial cost of a high quality base gun) into the BASR will it outperform an AEG. Do not go with a clone and attempt to upgrade it, it's just a waste of money

No. You can pin an AEG to semi only and using a MOSFET, force a 1 second dead time, essentially making your AEG a BASR. Not only that you might also be interested in playing the role of a DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle).

You're in luck there's a really active community out in the East. TTAC3 is one of the CQB venues and I believe you can also get AV'ed there while you're at it.

I don't know TBH, there are a few but I honestly couldn't tell you. As for CT and Walmart, avoid those like the plague. The guns they sell are pure and simple shit, and use proprietary/non standard parts so if it breaks you're SOL and out of $100 or whatever you spent. The only one worth getting from those places is the S34P 3-shot shotgun, by no means the "greatest" but the only one actually worth your money.

Indoor CQB can be as low as sub-330, and outdoors as high as 425. Indoors 330 is the limit that you'll be allowed to play at 100% of the fields and 350 at some fields. As for outdoor 400 is the general limit that most people in Canada follow.

Yes. There is "bullet drop" just like in real life. You must compensate for this. There is hop-up to counteract this and try to keep it at a more stable flight path however it's only so effective.

About 80 feet and you should be able to reliably predict the grouping. Anything further than that is based on luck, skill, and upgrades.

If it's black you're legally allowed to own it. As for the partially clear "Cansoft", they're just legal for import, once in country the police could care less what colour it is. You're still charged the same way if you do something stupid regardless of the colour of the gun, you could wave a totally clear gun at an officer or rob a store with a clear gun but when you get charged the prosecution will treat it as if it were black regardless of the colour it was during the commission of the crime.

Im not sure if the Events section is available to you since you're not Age Verified yet (if you want to know more on that, look for the sticky at the top of this section. It has everything you need to know about it).

If they are not available to you Id suggest you PM the user Brian McIllmoyle. He owns one of Torontos premiere indoor CQB locations, and one of the only (that I know of at least) that isn't a paintball field. He, along with anyone else at the event, will be willing to answer any of your questions to the best of their abilities. Abilities which I wouldn't doubt for the most part, especially Brian himself. He's hosting an event this Friday evening (I believe its this Friday, if not next Friday). PM him to finalize any and all details. While your there he can also Age Verify you thus opening up the rest of the board which is restricted to you at the moment.

Not only that he may also be able to set you up with a rental and you can also try the game out first hand for yourself too. You may or may not have to supply your own BBs(which he also sells). You can ask any questions that come to your head and at least one person will be able to answer it for you. If you are nice and show a good learning attitude, you may also ask to hold and shoot other peoples guns giving you a more tactile experience and you may be able to see which gun suits your body the most.

Don't be discouraged by people telling you that sniping isn't the best choice. Take what (most) of us say for what its worth. Most people have been doing this for years and know from experience. I have been doing this for just over two years and I still consider myself a noob compared to some of the vets around here, and am very humbled by their experience and learn as much as I can from them.

If you have any more questions to ask feel free to ask them, just do us and yourself a favor by searching this forum first to see if its already been answered. Chances are it has, even though it may be a bit overwhelming at first with all there is to learn but thats what we all had to do. Read, read and read some more. Read all the stickies which have been pinned to the top of each forum as they are there for you.

Longer barrel does NOT equal longer range, infact it doesn't even equal better accuracy, the only thing in the barrel that affects range and accuracy is the consistency of it's bore, and the quality of the ammo you use

As was stated, put about $500-$700 of just upgrade parts into your sniper rifle before it REALLY outperforms every other AEG on the field and you can take wicked accurate shots.
But your going to have to be a rifleman first to understand the limitations of airsoft before you start sniping, it's a very important first step!

further more...
haha these are so awesome lol

Go to a game first, chck out the other guns and then go from there.

You can make a sniper rifle better with expensive mods but the stock performance will be th same as an aeg

no one is going to let a noob/unknown player use an upgrade (high fps) gun at a game unless they have proven that they can be safe with it

get age verified and you can get black guns on this site

sgt. Splatters game tomorrow night should have an age verifier in attendance

again don't get a sniper rifle as your first gun, it'll turn you off of airsoft seriously

the word is "role" not "roll"

That is all.

Not directed at the OP in any way

I have a theory that new players are afraid of getting shot because they imagine that it hurts really badly and they automatically go for a role that would see them being hidden from other players and less likely to be shot.

They then decide to look into sniping when they first start out but the 'ole ASC repetitive machine comes out and corrects them with the whole sniper rifle as a first gun thing, they then retreat a little bit, and if they're smart they look into other guns/roles and go on to become regular airsofters.

Some don't and still buy an L96 from buyairsoft and plink around at home with it and never see a game because they think that they won't be allowed to play with it etc. they stay away from asc for a bit because they have gotten all that they want out of airsoft for the time being.

Then later on when basement plinking loses it's joy they come back and ask something like "where can I get black guns in Canada, I have a Well L96 from buyairsoft...." question, the monkey patrol sees their post, checks their join date (from when they first joined to ask about sniping) and thinks "wtf you've been here this long and you're asking such an easily researched question"

flames ensue, and everyone has a good laugh, some infractions might get handed out and occassionally a knight in shining armour (usually a newer but not-so-new player that thinks they were to hard on him, OR an older player that never comes on anymore and doesn't see that this type of shit happens everyday) emerges to defend said noob and things get even wackier

thread gets locked, and T7 or The Saint or another mod comes in to clean up and give the OP some facts on airsoft (and maybe some infractions, depending on how they posted) and we all go back to working on our guns, drinking, looking at porn etc. until the next monkey thread comes along.

woah that's long (twss lol)

I liken pus to the dog with the electrically charged treat.

Dog sees treat>gets tempted>goes for treat>gets shocked>tries again>gets shocked again>tries one more time>gets shocked again>dog doesn't go for treat again>short time passes>urge rises for treat again>dog gets shocked again.

Dog=pus, treat=rehashed thread of a century old topic brought up again, shock=infractions.
