You Be The Judge

ok so i was gonna buy something from a seller here on asc. i told him i'm interested in an item and i agreed to pay for it. later i found out that he posted the wrong info for the item and it's not what i'm looking for. i understand the idea of flaking but in this situation, i'm paying for something thats totally different from the description...(which i never agreed to pay for) heres what he sent me.

"As for the misleading description, I send my most sincere and deepest apologies. But as you noted, you were able to find out that I was incorrect, but your research was done post-confirmation of the purchase. I'm not trying to be a dick (i know it sounds like it, I'm really really sorry) but I can't make exceptions to the rule I posted of "flakers get negative feedback". Again, I'm really sorry, but I must adhere to my rule or I will give the impression I'm a pansy. I hope you understand and this will not affect any possible future transactions between us. I will try my absolute hardest to be more accurate with my descriptions."

and advices or suggestions would be nice...

If you made a deal item XX and the seller finds out he doesn't actually have XX, he has XY... the deal you agreed on is no longer valid because the item was the focus of the deal is not the one that it was made out to be.

Ie, agreeing to buy XX then not purchasing it because it's really XY is not flaking. This would be almost treading on the grounds of "retaliatory" feedback... Seller using the threat of negative feedback to bully the buyer into purchasing it anyways.

How would that make him look like a pansy? It's not like you guys made a thread to discuss all this, no one else would know. I say that's stupid, making someone else look bad for his own mistake?

Don't accept that, you agrred to buy a certain item, then you found out that the item in question was not what was described. If the seller can provide you with the original described item at the same price buy it if not, contact a mod and include all pm's if possible. They will have the seller remove negative feedback for posting false info about an item then giving negative feedback. I know you can't post retalitory negative feedback but in this case the mods may make an exception. Ask first though.

Not giving you negative feedback would be reasonable.

Giving you negative feedback makes him look like an asshole.

Which would he prefer?

Yeah sorry, if the the item was described incorrectly by the seller, that's their fault, not yours. You have every right to back out of that deal without fear of negative feedback.

Why not let the admins deal with it? I believe you can report such things in the
"comments or complaints" section.

When someone says "I'm not trying to be a dick".. it's because they know they are a dick.. they don't have to try

Misrepresentation of articles for sale.. then browbeating the hapless purchaser with the threat of negative feedback is low.

Tell him to fu*K himself and report to MOD

Glad someone else asked this. I recently bought an item which didn't match its description (i.e. described as workable but upon receiving it, did not shoot and was in poor physical condition to the point it affected function) and upon contacting the seller, his initial responses were far from helpful. In fact, they were very defensive and supposedly apologetic, much like the response posted in the OP. I'm definitely going to be considering making an official complaint.
