Exclamation Importing Questions to Montreal, from Florida. Assistance needed.

Dear all
Greeting from Florida state, US. Long story short, I work in a local airsoft store and i have very nice people from your Country visiting family here, on vacation. The mother come into my shop yesterday and wanted to buy Classic Army Sportlines for her children (I guess her children found out about the sport and want to get into it). We get all the way to the register and they tell me they are from canada.
Well I told them that to my knowledge the country of Canada has very specific rules and what-not; i would hate for them to be flying back home with an AEG they spent $160USD's on with all these accesories and have them confiscated. I have heard that you must have transparent recievers and whatnot (My knowledge is very shady in this area, please forgive me.)
So i told her that I will ask a group of fine gentleman (Such as yourselves) to provide feedback on what to do. That has lead me to this forum.
Any suggestions?

Thank you, and Happy Holidays!

They can't buy much from you, since even guns with clear parts can be hit or miss at customs. My advice is simply refuse the sale.

They can look for items in country, but the way you put it tells me these are parents looking to buy guns for their underaged kids, which won't be helped here either.

Roger that. Next two questions:

1)What is legal age limits up there to own AEG's?

2)What is a good Canadian retailer I can refer them to, so they can get started in the sport?

Hello Sir,

You are correct, to have replica guns in Canada you need to have a clear receiver or lower frame for pistols; the clear part differs from rifle to another. Example, M4 series it's the lower receiver while the MP5/G36 series it is the upper receiver.

Since you mention Montreal I'd like to mention that although the laws are uniform across the country Quebec tends to be harder on airsoft gun imports. I know this because I am a local airsoft shop in Montreal and dealing with the customs here is more than a hassle.

I'd also like to take my hat off to your customer service; as a consumer I would of loved dealing with a merchant like you who looks out for tourists.

Correct.

An all black gun would be confiscated. Even with clear lower receivers, you can have issues getting them into Canada if the CSBA agent is being uncooperative. Best choice if there 18 Plus is to register on this site.

All the specifics about airsoft in Canada can be found in the faqs.

EDIT:

Too slow I guess.... Age limit is 18+.

there is no legal age limits with except of Ontario (must be 18 to buy), but 99% of field allow only 18+ with few field allow 16+ with parent approved.

But ASC treat it as 18 for legal reason.

I appreciate the praise pal.

So, in short i will tell these people tommorow:

"Sorry, But selling guns to you would be fruitless for you, as the guns might not make it past CSBA, your sons are not old enough to legally play (therefore endangering the already limited status of the sport for others), and there might be legal repurcussions against you for trying to import replica firearms not meeting uniform code into your country. Please refer to AirsoftCanada.com or 007airsoft.com for further info."

Look good?

Also, for my own personal knowledge, is there anybody who plays across the border to beat the bans?

Thanks

Usually if there's Canadians gaming in the US they'll secure rentals beforehand or buy a gun and sell it before they come back.

Age limits are well 18+ most places but concessions can be made for younger players depending on field owner/admin running the games etc.

Only real thing that Canadians can buy are accessories, gear and such. Mags (can't be clear with faux bullets), scopes (can't be under ITAR), stocks, hand guards, BB's, clothing, gear like vests, holsters etc. (stuff that's not under ITAR).

There are "black" guns available in Canada just not publicly you have to become AV'ed in order to get access (meet with a rep and show some photo ID so they can make sure you're 18+). The clear receiver guns are what most of the big public stores sell.

PS: I have to also commend you for being a retailer who looks out for his customers rather than making a quick buck. I'm sure you get a lot of repeat business.

Airsoft guns are toys and can be purchased by anyone especially since Wal-Mart sells them. However, higher end guns are usually sold to persons that are at least 18 years of age. On this note, there are lots of minors that have higher end guns because the internet is quite a vast marketplace and those that are mature are usually part of the community but do not engage in events.

If your customers are from Montreal tell them to come visit me I am a local store and I can definitely help integrate them into the sport locally as I do pretty often. You can refer my website for details: www.SurplusIG.com

Thanks,

if your 18 ... just go and buy a airsoft gun from Surplug IG ,they are located in St-laurent street, below is chinatown. Really great and fun place to shop with.

They have great starter guns at market price. Then if you are very very interested in airsoft, get age verified and you'll find goodies

True, it has been labeled on almost any airsoft guns that this is not a toy.
