The problem with airsoft is that its in such a grey area of the law, no one knows what exactly to do about it. As long as you treat it (the airsoft gun) with respect (like a real firearm) then you are fine.

Also, once you get AV'ed, you will find there are much better guns than G&G. Best thing you can do is go to a game, even if you don't play spend some time with the vets, ask to handle their guns (as long as you don't act like a goof people will be more than happy to show you their toys) and you will find out which brands you will like. I understand all you have known as airsoft until now is G&G and ICS because of the marketing ploys of that "canadian legal" nonesense. Tokyo Marui, Classic Army, VFC, Star/Ares, JG, Systemas and all the other high-end guns will be a MUCH better investment for an AEG. I don't see the point of getting "starter" guns, because if you get a kick ass gun right off the bat you will like it more, you will have better performance/reliability, and you will find your integration into airsoft all that more seamless.

Also, make good friends with a good gundoc. They will become your new best friend.

We aren't really supposed to help you tell your AV'd. But honestley once you are AV'd You won't even have to look it'll be right in front of you. Armalites are a dime a dozen.

Unfortunately hes right. We won't tell you what guns to buy until you get your AV status, only because we have minors try and pull fast ones all the time. So we just err on the side of caution. Hopefully you can understand this and wait until you get your AV status.

Well actually if you can get your hands on one the all black ICS guns are actually great.

Other than that there are plenty of guns in the AV classifieds section. If you're not picky about brand or anything you can find guns from $300 all the way to $3000+ depending on whats included and whats in the package, what kind of modifications were put into the gun, and how much use it's seen. $550 should get you a decent used package with gun, a couple mags, and a scope however I'm not sure of the market right now as I haven't been in the classifieds in a while to see what kind of packages are available right now (not in the market for another gun currently).

Note that airsoft batteries are basically just RC batteries just different shapes, they're both rated for high current output and such. You won't have any problem with customs regarding them. Certain pieces of gear however are a no-no (equipment that falls under ITAR, and other prohibited goods/parts like Receivers).

I bought my M4 for $450 used. It was just a basic package. Gun, battery, and scope. No mags, no charger, nothing extra. Eventually I'll buy more and more gear but start off with the basic fighting equipment and you can work your way up from there.

Yeah that's probably a good idea. Just renting first to see if you like it. I personally don't have any regrets joining.

Those dammed school fees..... They can burn in hell, and now the universities want to charge us more because of the economy???? Whats up with that? I mean I can manage but others, I've seen other people who have had to take a semester off to work to raise some money to continue school.

Just don't go overboard and you'll be fine. There are a lot of students who spend money on airsoft instead of food, rent, tuition, books etc. and wonder why they have no money and have to sell their guns to pay for school. I'm actually kind of guilty of that but I don't care, I can eat rice every day if I have to, I mean I am Chinese and that's pretty much what I've been eating for the last 19 years (40 lb bag of rice + rice cooker FTW)

yea...this state of the economy is complete BS if u ask me...its in the phrase "you pay more and you get less" its ridiculous the amount of money they charge...i feel really srry for international students who have too pay alot more then we do...lets put it this way...the tuition for an international student is 5 times more then my tuition...lol...thats a complete rip off..anyway back to airsoft...ive heard its a really expensive sport to play...but compared to paintballing i think paintballing is alot more expensive hands down just because u have to refill CO2 and paintballs r a ridiculous amount of money if u want good qulity ones...plus u also have to pay to play as well...airsoft seems expensive initially but after that I think i should be fine money wise
