FYI...duty assessment has nothing to do with the seller....it is Canada Customs. If they chose to inspect your package and the Customs officer thinks it should be classified under a certain tariff.....then you get customs charges.

Don't slam Evike about a Canadian Border Service issue.
I have refuted charges and gotten duty back. You just have to do your research. All the info is on the CBSA website......

I agree this is true. Odd thing is, it happens a lot to Evike shipments. Yet I've never had it happen to a eHobby, EB, RW, WGC or UNC shipment, or stuff from other non-airsoft stores/retailers (I've been charged taxes and stuff, but never the outlandish fees seen when ordering from Evike). The closest BS fee I got hit with was importing Marpat from the US (eBay) and got charged some duty fee on "women's clothing"

I got nailed with a small amount of duty from Ehobby one time.....refuted it and got my 20 bucks back.......
The problem when it is shipped via courier....they almost always charge a 35-40 brokerage fee which is pretty standard....

Do you homework before you shipp and if necessary give the shipper instructions as to what to call things on the manifest....

Yes but Evike has to have a part in this some how.

because on my package they marked it as being a value of 1,200$ which is not true.

man i'm in all sorts of bad luck

I just ordered a glock of shootsoft and they wanna wait 20 fucking whole business days before they even ship for no reason at all but "high volume of sales"

god damn it.

Re customs

Hey Guy's
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about every sale I have done with EVIKE
has gone smoothly
But I deal with the same guy on the phone all the time.
I sent him a Western Union payment for $420 last week
it got here in 4 day's the customs paper said value was $70
postage was $67.50
And the box was checked as a Gift.
Maybe i've just been lucky so far

By the way does anyone know how I go about aquireing a Replica permit?

NO! Bad newbie..hot! *swats nose w/ rolled up newspaper*

On another note, I have ordered from Evike in the past, and I just have my items sent to a UPS store just across the border. I'm noticing a lot of the people here complaining live fairly close to the states, make a day trip of it and bring our items across yourself. That way you'll avoid the duty.

Asking to understate the value a little bit? (I think this is illegal and if they ask for an invoice you'll be a bit screwed)
Declaring it as a gift?

An other reason why not buy from them...

I wanted to order the SCS hopup spacer from them because its almost the only place you can find it. Soo I asked them by email what would be the shipping cost for 4 of them. I got an answer saying that I need to pay for the item first and then they will be able to give me a shipping quote. I paid 24$ for the spacer and waited for an shipping quote....15$!!! Yes.... 15$ for a 24$ order they could fit in a ***** envelope for .75$

they can kiss my money goodbye

Yeah. Never trust a retailer who asks you to pay for items before they tell you the total cost with shipping.

TO answer your question, you may have to pay duty, it depends on how they mark the items on the shipping manifest. I've had a couple orders well over 1000 dollars from ASGI and have only paid the shipping costs To avoid paying duty don't import anything from a foreign country unless the items are duty exempt. If you are importing goods Duty is a fact of life, (like taxes, and death).

Why are you people still ordering from a US retailer, who it is WELL KNOWN charges outrageous amounts for shipping? AND who uses UPS, who is WELL KNOWN for insane duty charges?

I order from evike, but drive across the border to pick it up @ a UPS store, thereby avoiding duty/shipping.

Either stop ordering or do the same, this constant bitching about something you could easily avoid is getting tiresome.

*Edit: If you really really need a part/item that cannot be had in Canada, go with WGC (if they will take your money) or RedWolf. They are both top notch retailers and shipping is not too bad. They also send shipments via HongKong Post airmail, which goes thru Canada Post and will not incur any brokerage fees.

Support your local retailers. There is not a lot of stuff you can't now find within Canada, and if you do buy abroad, be sensible about it and calculate taxes, shipping and duty plus exhange rates into the cost of the item before you believe it to be a good deal.

Have you ever tried calling and asking them to do just that?
