It's not likely that I'm going to just leave one in the middle of the road or near any lit firecrackers so I doubt I would need durability quite like that.

Classic Army and G&P make some amazing fuckin' armalites.

To be honest.. You don't need to explode your gun or run it over with a truck... Around here there's at least 30-40 people that have been using classic army guns for the past couple years and I haven't heard of an external failure yet.

+1

I can speak from first hand experience that Classic Army makes a rock solid Armalite. I've also heard very good things about G&P.

I've looked around but I can't find out what the acronym VFC stands for. I hate to ask such a dumb question, but what does VFC stand for?

I'd personally rate G&P lower than a jg, I've seen 3 of them 1 was brand new and none of them fed a mag properly, and I mean none. Not 1 TM, star, G&P, MAG, in any variation, low high or mid. VFC 416, or a CA are probably gonna be as close to a RS as you are gonna get.

The reason Real Sword are so durable is that their externals are all real steel grade stuff. They are the ONLY company that make airsoft guns of this grade, and unfortunately don't make an AR model. Although if they did, I would be on that like Michael Jackson on a troop of boy scouts.

Your best bet would be either Classic Army or G&P. I have a CA, and honestly, from all the different ARs that I've handled and shot so far (PTW included), I rate it top of the pile. The quality of the metal and plastic is beyond anything else out there IMO. And unlike a PTW, you don't have to handle your gun like a porcelaine doll for fear of cracking your receiver or keeping it dry for fear of shorting out your electronics.

I've seen someone do the HK416 dunk test with a VFC HK416 and it kept on chugging just like the real thing.

ICS metal bodies are very tough. However, the metal they make their RIS units out of aren't as good.

At some point you've got to ask yourself what you're actually going to do to it. Roll around in some mud, maybe drop it a couple times. Certainly if you want to run it over with a truck you're in the wrong sport. CA and G&P guns should be able to withstand most airsoft punishment.

As I said, the Real Sword AKs are that tough because externally, they are basically real guns, and just as tough as a real AK. AKs are reknown for their ability to take abuse that would put any other gun out of commission instantly. I doubt you could drive over a real AR or blow it up and have it continue working.

But I can understand wanting a tough gun, and that's why I chose CA. I know damn well that none of my other guns except the Real Sword could withstand the abuse that my CA can. Not that I abuse it, but I know if I drop it, throw myself on the ground, knock it on trees and rocks, etc - the normal wear and tear you put an AEG through at a game - that it will survive without issue. I don't have to worry about keeping my gun safe while playing. I just play.

It all comes down to a price point though...

500 or so for a CA

900+ for a VFC

Lets be honest... Do we really needs airsoft guns that can get run over by cars and exploded? (Most guns will work just fine after getting dunked in water, one of my team mates took a bath in what he though was a solid icy trench... Turns out it wasn't so solid, and his TM M14 went 100% Submerged, he brought it up and it kept on firing)

There isn't much in an AEG that's water sensitive, they're much more mechanical than electronic.

The only electrical parts are the batter, wires to trigger conacts, or some of the sort very little, unless u have lit scopes or red dots, flashlight etc.
