Just bought a new (used) AEG

I bought this for $500.

-Tokyo Marui HK G3SG1
-Rifle case
-Hi-Cap magazine and Low-Cap magazine
-Magnified scope (not a red dot)
-Upgraded spring and gearbox (verified at 470fps on .20g BB. Systema gearbox)
-Loading rod
-Cleaning rod
-Battery (9.6V 2300mAh NiMH)
-Small bag of BBs (.25g) and jar of black Bbs (.20g)

Now my question is this, he quoted fps at 470, yet every event I see has about a 350 fps limit. Am I going to have to buy a "weaker" internals to make this field legal?

Yes, a heavier BB will lower the velocity. But it's not about velocity. It's about energy. A heavier BB at a slower velocity still has the same energy as a lighter BB at a higher velocity. That's why when there's a limit on a game, it's specified that it's with .2g BBs. My M15 rifle shoots about 385 with .2, and about 320 with .28. Even though that's a lower velocity, it still delivers the same energy.

So if you want to game it, you have to downgrade it to under 400 for outdoors, and under 350 for indoors. That will require replacing the main spring.

The standard is 350 - 400 with .2 bbs

although heavier bbs will be lower.. they will hit harder due to the increased mass.

All velocities are quoted with the presumption of .2 bbs

you will need to downgrade the spring to use this.. at most games

That totally misses the point. A heavier BB has the exact same amount of ENERGY as a lighter one and all events chronie on .20's.

To the OP:
Yes, if it does actually fire at 470, you'll have to throw in a lighter spring.

hmm ! just a head up, You really can't play with that gun at the game tomorrow because it's way over the limit 350 fps.

Mmmmm......

470 is a bit hot for anything really. I believe that the hottest gun you can have at most places is 450 FPS and that's if you're actually a sniper with a Minimum Engagement Distance.

I believe the downgrade you should be looking at is either an M100 or M110 spring (depending on other factors too).

I'd say if you plan on playing indoors a lot, even an M90 spring may be in order. M110 will more than likely hit 360+ fps which is no good for indoors... M100 will be about 340 - 350, but if a tightbore ever gets added, that will shoot up into the 360-ish range, also making it too hot. M90 + tightbore should put that gun in the 350 range.
