Your Thoughts on Deployable "Airsoft Robots"?

I've got a friend who does robotics.. seems like a cool idea to use UAV- Land Robots on one of these games... how cool would that be?

Your thoughts on it please.

All depends on how we would disable it.

I imagine shooting it wouldn't do the trick, unless there was a target switch like an IPSC competition target or something.

Or unless its owner doesn't mind me throwing a mattress/log on it and jumping on it repeatedly.

I don't think it'd take that much to rig up some sort of hit registering system, relative to the total cost of the entire robot.

I think there are better airsoft prop investments, though.

For some reason...a variant of the Cowboy/Bomb scene from "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" popped into my head the second I saw the pic...

Why not just have a target on top with some sort of spring loaded arm that when the target falls back/forward it lights up a red siren light and kills power to the vehicles weapon? Does leave the sides open, but if someone was to flank it and push down this "arm" it would be the same as someone running up and putting a charge on it? Much like we do for large vehicles?

If you watch TV and witnessed Robot wars.. You must have seen Steve Jones from Biomech Technologies.. He set up shop right beside my workplace, and he says it could be done. Pricing depends mostly on materials used. A full out Robot, will start at about $3000.. That's about the price of 3 Serious AEG's.. Seems pretty affordable. The question is: How serious is the Team? I mean, cmon let's face it.. We've got from 50 Cals, airsoft landmines to Gatling Guns & Tornado grenades... why not a Robot? Even a simple mountable camera, trigger mechanism and a simple DEFEAT system would do.
It would be a nice addition to a Squad.

Anyways, I'm just throwing it out there.. We're not very far.. the technology is already available... just imagine it with airsoft!

Damn... I have to stop watching the Military Channel.. anyone here have Rogers digital? LOL

A strike plate mounted at all sides ... If it gets hit.. it kills the power.
You could have the same mechanism on all parts of the robot too... mounted on the gun, the camera, the tracks... so it's more realistic.

Remote control drones are easy enough, but a proper drone that auto fires? Not easy.

Most I've seen, like the paintball one, work on a fairly simple webcam based motion tracking system. Some will even be 'advanced' enough to fire only at human like shapes. I have yet to see something produced in the private sector that will stop itself after shooting its target, let alone one that will be able to hold fire on an unsafe target or an already dead target.
