I would second the Steyer AUG recommendation. The mag release is on the centerline of the gun, just behind the mag. The fire control is the trigger: it's two stage, the first stage being a single shot, the second stage being full auto. I'm right handed, but shoot what ever hand the situation requires. The AUG presents no additional challenges in this respect. They come up in the classifieds every so often, with enough price variation that you may be able to find one within your budget.
As to other guns, the best thing to do may be to physically try out various models. This needn't be done in the field... a simple handling test, to see if you can figure out a way to work fire select/mag release/safety off-handed would be all that's required. For instance, I know that I can manipulate the safety on a P-08 with my left hand, but it requires a bit of concentration. I could also shoot a standard bolt action left handed, but letting go of the front of the rifle in order to work the bolt is clunky.
Hmmmm.....
It would be nice to see a Winchester Model 94 in airsoft...

A good question,
I really started to notice from firing real guns (mostly .22s and old .303s, thank you Sault Saint Marie aha)
Mostly it is important to me just for comforts sake I really enjoy being able to shoot ambidextrous and I guess its a skill I don't want to loose because I get lazy.

Also I find it useful for corners,
I can just switch hands and yet thanks to ambidextrous controls I am still in total control of my airsoft.

Not sure how my reasoning would merit for the experienced player, but it's important to me.

Shooting from cover, w/ weak side.

ARs are great examples of an ambidextrous design that isn't... (if that makes sense)..

You can do quick changes on left side, also use the selector with no problems. (even on RS. Bolt catch can be hit with index finger, and charging handle can be pulled with right hand, no problem. )

Or maybe I've had AS ARs for too long....

LOL!

Wow... I bet the FPS is pretty high on whichever gun can do that

And even on RS ARs the brass wont fly in your face with an A2 + upper. I don't know exactly what he means by "SPR", though....

yea i hate the one on my jg dragon. i filed it down....made it better...not much
just didnt feel like buying a new grip for that thing

im left handed but people say i shoot right handed cuz i hold the grip with my left hand but i dunno how thats shooting right handed to be honest

but i understand why this kid/guy wants a gun thats ambi. its a pain in the ass if you got a gun where the selector or cocking lever is on the opposite side of the gun.
ambi guns are pretty cool and usually comfy in hand

aug or famas are what i would recommend. Both are easily upgradable as well. just need the knowledge. Holding a gun is probably your best bet to find out whats right for you. I was set on getting an m4 for the longest time until i actually held one in hand. it just felt awful and disgusting to me. Famas just felt much better to me. Its all about personal preference.

I would go for a G36 type weapon with a KV stock that stores a large battery.
The g36 series is ambidexterous and it can be maintained relatively easily b/c of it's design. The outer barrel of the G36 is threaded onto the front end so you can swap outer barrels for various lengths to suit your senerio.

Nice to know there are some lefty's out there like myself! I actually would be a righty, but my right eye isn't so good...
Really sucks when you're trying to shoot from behind cover cause your sights are one big blur! Or shooting a righthanded bolt action. Reloading is kindof annoying too with an m4 but you get used to it. Anyway.
As i remember ambidextrous fire selectors are hard because sometimes you can't make the switch go through the gearbox.
