Damn, you're right. Never thought about that.

You know, we used to play on private property with groups of trusted players without any insurance, permits or environmental assessments. Money goes to the field owner, if you hurt yourself tough luck, and nobody was ever the wiser.

In a game based on honor and integrity, it's appaling that we have to rely on insurance just in case some fuckwit with bad shoes twists an ankle and tries to sue. Fuck it, play at your own risk. Don't like it, don't play there.

Open that shit up bud. I'll shoot you $20 to run around your property for a day, and if I fuck myself up that's my problem. At the end of the day, you get a pile of money in your pocket and I get to shoot people. Sounds just fine to me.

Thats always been my attitude, if your doing ME a favor providing a place to play for the day, offring something good! I aint gonna stab you in the back if I hurt myself. Myself doesnt mean I step on an exposed nail or something, but more like we play a game that could bar injury, live with it, or dont participate.

You, my friend, are my kind of player. I've hosted a couple of smaller games on the property already (How do you think Naglfar knows what the terrain is like?), but that was just with my team and one that we're pretty tight with. I'm almost done my first set of sketches, so those'll be up in a sec.

*edit*

Sorry for the wait, but here are some of my preliminary sketches (cleaned up versions of those from my notebook):

Contact me if you want to steal my ideas!

its kinda sketchy when you have total strangers showing up to play, hence the idea of an association is a good one imo that way its kind of a shared thing and a more close-knit community with no risks of legal action in the case of accidents etc. keep planning tho bud!

btw if you're gonna charge for bb's ynot support another Canadian business and get a contract with the Bastard to be your exclusive supplier?

Land is the biggest hurdle you'll have to cross in this kind of venture and it looks like you've got it covered, everything else is just pocket change in comparison, although the insurance is definately usually the next price concern. Just make sure if you do go all out you know your gonna have enough business to support yourself.

Running a field was one of the best times of my life I loved it. I would highly recommend it if it's feasable for you.

Ideally that would be the plan...but I want to have something concrete before I start asking about that.

A note or two about the sketches...the pins won't just be in four places...they'd have multiple holes so that you could adjust to a variety of angles. Also, the "Single Square filler" would work in conjunction with strips and larger boards to cover the floor area in and around the buildings...that way you don't have to cut holes into bigger boards all the time whenever you want to put a building on a new angle.

Any questions about how I see this working? It makes sense in my head, but I know sometimes something you take for granted other people are missing out on.

Well we already have an age verrification system for ASC, dont see why there cant be something similar for a private field, we dont know ya, u aint comming, IE be registered on ASC, be active as u can, know someone I know, cant know everyone, but if someone I know vouches for that person, good enough type system.. If your a loner player, not anymore, get to know us, were a tight community, to pull something like this off, have to all stick together.

I think though, for this to make enough money to stay operating year after year you need to rely on getting a few randoms every week who are just Joe Blows that are interested in the game - those are the ones I'd worry about, especially on the off chance that some asshole shows up and 'accidentally' injures themselves just to try and sue you.

Unfortunately the only rational thing to do is get proper insurance and maybe even contact a lawyer to get some waiver or disclaimer written up to maybe reduce those insurance rates.
Sadly in this day and age, there are too many people who will sue your ass just to make a quick buck.

We'll see how that part of it works out...right now I'm trying to figure out the physical aspect. Once I start learning a bit more about business I'll see where I'll go with the idea...I have aLOT of research to do still, so I'm not ruling anything out just yet...even opening the place up to the public. If it gets off the ground, that is....we'll see.

Do you have any idea if the 10 sqm that was mentioned before is still the limit? or is there another number floating around out there? If so, it may be neccessary to go with a building permit to allow for more usable, larger structures (like the Drug Lab from Flag Raiders for example). Other than that the "L" shaped idea Brian shot out was a good one, maximum possibilities for play and enjoyment on a strictly limited area. I would be more than willing to CAD up some drawings if the time comes where they're needed.

Also, the idea of a membership only field is a good one, it essentially eliminates the potential to sue. Have a waiver to sign upon acquiring that says something along the lines of "By signing this waiver you forteit the legal right to sue the host.". It may not be the flashiest of ideas, but a solid one. I do however see the need for walk-ons and "Joe Shmoes" to come to the feild, providing that extra revenue you may need to keep the field operational. If they go through a pre-screening, similar to a sports team tryout where we can gauge their attitude and seriousness it may help to weed out the bad seeds.

Plus gun rentals would probably be your primary source of income.
Build a solid fleet of JGs and keep an inventory of replacement parts, in most cases 5 or 6 rental fees will more than pay for the cost of each gun and some spare parts.

Its an idea, but as Lawdog, our local ASC Lawyer has said and will probably say again, its not hard to get around that and sue you anyways.
