I have to totally disagree with you 100,000%

The reason is simple!!! The reason we have a small community at this point is based on a few factors:

A: cost of guns
B: legalities of getting guns
C: Associated cost of importing and purchasing said guns
D: oh ya, cost of guns.

If you could bring the cost of the guns down to US levels, you would see a HUGE influx of new people to the sport...it is too cost prohibitive at this point due to the (at this point) one or two companies in Canada that control and import them...hence setting the pricing for all of us to enjoy...not!

imagine if you could get a G23F for $175 instead of $375...lots of people would jump on board with Airsoft and we would have dedicated airsoft fields (like we do paintball) all across Canada.

Just my thoughts!

i think this has to do with our sketchy laws in Canada. If canada has laws like the US or something of that nature, then we can all be getting guns for Asia's msrp. if there are new and less strict laws in place, there will b more retailers again and the prices would lower, nationwide; but of course everyone wants to buy airsoft guns overseas without running into trouble with CBSA.

Lol, more like $100, but yes. Some people thinks it keeps idiots who don't have cash (usually younger people) from getting into the sport and/or getting in shit with the law and ruining our sport.

Thats my point....you have to remember one thing...for the most part people are going to want to order from retailers close to home...why?? because customers want customer support and the ease of knowing that if something goes wrong with their purchase, they don't have to deal with sending it back to Hong Kong or Japan, shipping, duties etc....but....those of us that don't care will also have the option of going outside Canada to try and save those few bucks! I do it all the time. If I'm in a rush or its a big money purchase, i buy locally. If i can save 25 to 50%, i go on Ebay to Hong Kong or els ware for smaller stuff.

Bottom line is that it would benefit Airsoft retailers as well as the consumer...and the sport!

Take everything you listed A through D, apply the section of the paragraph I highlighted.
If you could change the cost of guns
If you could change the legalities of getting guns
If you could change the legalities importing guns
and once again if you could change the cost of guns.
Its all "ifs" my question is how. Its not as if it has not been attempted before. So basically it boils back to my initial statement, our market is to small for the time being, so the argument is essentially moot.

Until Canadian laws in regards to firearms and replica firearms change, our hands are essentially bound on the matter.

Agreed...but take a look at paintball. I was into it way back years ago when i was in my teens (I'm 32 now). All we have to do is as a community is figure out the best ways to try to limit the ass's from the sport. Strict age guidelines like the UK and USA, etc.

I have to disagree with some of what you are saying.

Its not a matter of changing the cost of the guns...IT WILL happen if.....getting and importing gets sorted!

Now, imagine if you could get "Mr. Tanaka" (imaginary VP of imaginary airsoft gun manufacturer) to see the potential market in Canada "assuming" the legality issue is resolved!

I would bet you lots of money that they would jump on board seeing that you just opened up a brand new free flowing market too them...money is money in the business world!

your missing the point to some degree...im not talking about changing any current laws...though that might happen if the Canadian Government sees the tax dollars start to roll in based on airsoft. I'm talking about sidestepping the current laws...assuming it can be done. There was a whole movement back in the beginning of the paintball days to try and ban paintball..."it's dangerous" they said. Now, there are exceptions for paintball in Canadian law...why? because it makes the government money and it adds to our economy!

Anyhow...its 4:20 am in Toronto and im going to bed...cant wait to see what mail i have in the morning! lol

hmm i see now. but how were you planning to sidestep the laws initially? because currently the law is pretty tight and unbreachable. Haha, i hope i made sense of myself of what i said or at least try to say from my previous posts...

I admire your enthusiasm, I dont mean to be cynical to your arguments its just that Ive read and seen and participated in many discusions alot like this one.

You are correct though, money is money in the business world. Companies will continue to focus their efforts on other countrys where for the time being have a larger market than Canada.

Exactly why companies don't pay attention to the Canadian airsoft scene. It's way too small to even bother.

Case and point:

Companies can't bring the guns into Canada without having to deal with importation bullshit.

So they forget it... It's more of a headache than it's worth to them.
