I'm not at all convinced that it is good for the future of airsoft if we get the classification of airsoft guns to be modified to firearm.

Well, considering then we'll probably be restricted to a 5 round mag and semi only, I'm inclined to agree.

People just fucking accept it:

YOU CAN'T PERSONALLY IMPORT AIRSOFT!

i understand that. i think what many people are trying to grasp is whether or not we can CHANGE the law. i mean, i got a joke airsoft pistol for Xmas. yes it did have an orange tip, but paint that black, and it looks just like an M9 and yes it does shoot out (however pathetically) BBs. that being said, this is technically a replica, yet the person who bought it for me said they got it at the dollar store for $2. its stuff like this that confuses people.

Changing the lobby happens two ways:

1) you lobby and the government passes new laws:

2) you go to court and win one or more important cases

I'm not sure either is likely to happen, or in the case of 2) is economically viable.

Just a thought... but if game hosts were to have petitions at games across canada and if everyone signed them, the likelihood of airsoft being considered a sport and therefore making the rifles legal to import might be much easier to get done...

+1

easier said than done,
if someone has the petition to sign, everyone will help out and sign it

Does anyone believe that a petition, not supported by a proper lobbying effort will produce a positive result?

Sure, why not? we can't make change by just sitting around and bitching about it to each other... action is needed! And at least a petition can raise the awareness of the issue.
Point is we should and need to try

....And the response to that is, attention in general is the last thing we need. Unless we have a solid plan, all public attention will do for us is get people on our case. Attention is not a good thing.

Then why don't we work on a "solid" plan?

How complex is it to start the lobbying process? Is it something that could be done part-time by a few committed individuals?
Establishing the legality of Airsoft guns would undoubtedly be immensely beneficial to the sport...

If the game hosts started passing around petitions as well surely it would be beneficial...
