what have you done to your PSG to make it divide by zero? can you teach me to do the same thing? Can any gun be made to do that, or did you just warp time and space and created the ultimate PSG-1?

Yea.. wtf @ the ".2 will never fly faster than 450"

... I'm pretty sure if I wanted too I could make a system that propelled a .2 at over 1000 FPS... (Ether + Combustion)

My KJW M700 on a hot day (shortly after I got it) chronied it's first shot after a mag fill at 710fps with a 0.20g BB (I'd like to think that's over 500fps.) After three more shots it settled down to 550fps, leading me to realize the mags need to be dry fired 4x after filling with gas.

And I got my CA M24 to shoot one at 544fps last week, but I'd been working on getting my airseals and new parts settled in, so it's a bit over 500fps now.

Aqua`s right, i have seen 0.2s going close to 600 FPS on a crony.

This is an awesome thread!!
It has helped me alot (in understanding airsoift sniping)
Thanks!

now here is a question for you avid snipers (looks in the direction of Aqua and Stalker.......
does FPS realy have that much of an effect in range and accuracy or is it more of a tight inner barrel, good air seal, well adjusted hop, good quality BB's and so on?

My PTW shoots 545-550fps with 0.20g BB's. I think hatrick simply made a spelling error or something.

FPS is a by-product of ALL those things. Higher fps will give the BB more strength out to a certain distance (range) before it starts to lose energy and the hop up effect takes over (and then becomes more sensitive to wind and air pressure changes). Tight inner barrel has the same effect on fps as good quality ammo (good ammo tends to be larger and more consistance for size), both will reduce the amount of air passing the BB and increase the velocity a bit. Good airseal as well will help increase velocity, as will good hop up rubber (hop up becomes an obstruction in the barrel which the BB has to push out of the way, reducing the velocity of the BB.)

Okay let me ask this 2 PSG 1's identical in every way but the spring 1 is 500fps and one is 300 firing in a controlled invironment will or do they have the same range and so on?

No, the upgraded 500fps one will have a farther and more stable shot. Largely depends on ammo too, heavier (to a point) will always give a more accurate shot and better range because it'll be more stable. Lighter BBs will veer off earlier because they don't carry as much energy and will be more susceptable to denser air pockets (such as wind or even just air movement). Often times one of the best upgrades to get increased range is heavier BBs (like up to 0.30g.)

I guess a good analogy would be if I shoved you hard vs. shoving you not as hard, which would move you farther? Could be a bad analogy I suppose, but am trying to get this typed before I leave.

From purely a physics and ballistics standpoint - the difference would be distance and accuracy *at a distance* if I'm understanding your question correctly.

Consider this: Higher FPS can/will typically mean that the gun will shoot straigher (less of an arc) which is again when the hopup is supposed to kick in.

All things aside, *ignoring hopup, ignoring barrel variances, etc.* the only thing generally that a faster FPS will do is reduce the arc that gravity causes which could mean more distance.

Accuracy I would think then is the equasion of how you're compensating for all of those (or how you have your weapon set up)

Its an okay analogy, but in that instance, the weight of a person will be taken into account. you could shove me (140lbs +/-2lbs) a lot farther than someone who is 180lbs. that being said, in airsoft, you could put a .30g bb farther and more accurately than a .2g bb at 500 fps (with regards to the .2g bb) if i am not mistaken (but probably am).

Right - the heavier BB carries more inertia that makes it less apt to changes in wind, etc.

Is it harder to stop someone 130lbs running at 15 feet per second than it is someone 200lbs running at 10 feet per second?

Maybe that's a bad analogy too, but I guess it still somewhat applies.

It's hard to sneak up on someone that close. Unless you're a ninja... Then you've got it made.
....And that is the only real challange we face, as we are indeed limited in our overall effective range, and therefore face a harder challenge in this aspect. And BTW; I chrony 0.20's at 627 fps with my 380% spring....and apparently the guys at Arisoft Extreme (Sacramento) say that most of the American airsoft snipers use 0.02's at over 600 fps. Fun, yes....practical, I don't see how.... they (0.20's) loss velocity fast, and are affected by the slightest breeze, so how can the be really accurate at long range??

Im with Stalker on this one, my M700s punched over 700fps a few times with a propane mag nice day, but thats always after a fresh fill, a few dry fires or just using duster keeps it lower.

When Aqua pulls the trigger a small portal opens up infront of the barrel and the BB travels into it, and then at the same time a portal opens directly infront of his target and the BB exits on its mark, sometimes people still dont call their hit!

I find when you fire your PSG, I get turned on.
