That's typical of life in the country where no one wants, dirt bikes, mountain bikes, an airport, a dump, and so on anywhere near their street. Very often it is city folks who've left the city for "peace" in the country that drive this type of deal.

Only golf courses and horse riding stables are acceptable neighbors. A lot of times the eyesore was there when they moved but they didn't clue in till later.

That said do the folks running these fields use a template to lay out the firing areas so there is no chance of rounds leaving the property? This would also provide a noise buffer. At the end of the day it's up to the players to police themselves around the area.

If you disturb local residents it doesn't matter if you've been there for a century, you're the bad guy. I work at a gravel pit that has been in existence for over 40 years, people have bought lots/houses all around us and then complain if we even fart the wrong way.

i work at flag raiders and paintballs are maid of vegtable oil and food coloring witch are biodegradable. the people say that lots of people are having complaints, thats a dam lie there's only one lady who bitches about it and she lives farther then the guy next door and he dosnt have a problem at all with the noise. this lady who always complains about the noise can't do anything anyway's becausethe law states that after 11:00pm exesive noise is not aloud not before. when we would be having the all night airsoft games she would have her music cranked and we could hear it from the field. at the field there are about 70-80 people working at a time not just 60. yes there have been some players there (mostly paintballers) who have been doing stupid stuff but never anything to piss somone off.

Fuck cocksucking bible thumping pansies, I swear. Problems with foul language???? What fucking century do we live in? For fuck sakes..

On that note I'm really getting pissed off at people in the Waterloo Region in general. Every fucking little thing....some soccer mom or beaurocrat with nothing better to do with their pointless life (other than church) has to go nit-pick and find a fucking problem with. Seriously, the people in this city and it's obviously the tri-city area in general are the whinyest bunch of little bitches on the ENTIRE planet. If you visit here for a couple days, you can bet your ass you'll run into some technicality with one of the oodles of stupid by-laws and various other dumb things the governments have going on around here.

That's what you get when you give people one of the best standards of life in the whole fucking world though. They just get selfish, greedy, bitchy, whiney and turn into first class, born again pansy's.

rideout, I think it's justified if....You tell me who this bitch is who complains for the sake of complaining and I'll stop by and light a bag of flaming dog shit on her door step.. and I'll even label it "flaming bag of SHIT" just to piss her off.

Seriously though, time for us to boycott Cambridge or something now. We have to do something....

DICKS!

Dude. it's everywhere....

Folks live in groups of social strata. They never see those social groups that live below them and become isolated. They have problems like everyone else, and think they are BIG problems.

People are bitching about noise, license plates are being denied for stupid reasons, folks are strating organizations to tighten gun control when kids are going to school starving, there are countless kids being abused and beaten to death every year, and we are on the verge of an epidemic of sorts with antibiotic resistant bugs.

They have no fucking clue what real problems are. They are oblivious.

They real problem is most folks that work in the media are IN THAT FUCKED UP LEVEL OF SOCIETY, and think the issues they are reporting are are important, and the rest of their fucked up breed never get their heads out of their asses.

Just a note, there aren't many neighbours (two in the immediate vinicity; one across the road, and one a few hundred meters over an open field with no trees around it), it's on the flight pattern for the airport which is less than 2km away, it's about 5km from SafetyKleen's plant... there is no urban development etc. There are also numerous dirt bike and atv tracks around that area.

FR not only has the outdoor field, but an indoor field and a pro shop, so not all of the 60 people will lose their jobs (right away, who nows what the long term looks like). If they look hard enough, they may be able to find land in one of the surrounding regions, which aren't too far from the current location (30 minutes, tops).

Here's hoping FR pulls through this, and we will have a place to play (and maybe help set-up) next summer.

The environmental concerns are probably glycol related. Pballs are filled with a mix of glycol, glycerine, and oil which is not particularly toxic, but large amounts can damage crops. I don't know what the decomposition rate of paintball paint is, but if FR contaminates their area at a rate higher than the decomposition rate than they could be affecting their neighbors crop growing abilities. Watch a round of speedball. I wouldn't be surprised if half a barrel of paint is dumped in a game day.

Pballers can be pretty obnoxious when they're hyped up after a game. Think about why you left pball for airsoft.

I'd be sad to see FR go, but you do have to think about all of the effects that it's presence causes.

This really sounds like what was going on with Ultimate paintball about 20yrs ago . There still there but, at the time the surrounding neighbors did everything they could to shut down this place.

Having not played at FR in a long time, I truly hope the local politicians don't bend to public pressure from a few loud individuals.

Doesn't matter to the neighbors, or neighbor as the case may be. Once they start the wheels turning there's no stopping them. Calling in favors with the family lawyer for advice, over the fence chats with the elected officials, calls to the papers and so on.

What to do? Staff has to police the players on field re noise, language, arcs of fire. Players have to police themselves to and fro.

The owners of the field need to bring the media, city councilors, etc. on site to show why it's not a problem. Remind them of taxes, local employment, and money spent by visitors. Remind them of the benefit of having a controlled environment as an outlet for this type of activity vs kids running around their yards, streets, and public parks.

Look into what's going to be put on the property afterwards, pig farm maybe? Depending on the zoning what replaces the field could be much worse for the area residents.

Any guerilla attacks on the squeaky wheel in the area will backfire. She simply needs to show the local media that she's being subject to a campaign of harassment and any potential positives of the area will evaporate.

The issue is

Ever expanding Urban sprawl.

FR when founded was not under the jurisdiction of the city of Cambridge Offical plan.. but over the years municipalities have been forced to amalgamate to acheive economies of scale while the provicial government downloads more and more onto them..

Somewhere the land that FR is on got gobbled up and is now subject to the official plan of the Municipality,,

This is a binding document ... and governs all land use... if the use is not in the plan... it can't be done..

Sound like the counsel already gave them a pass 2 times... and they knew that this was going to happen...

I went through this to get approval for FTF... had to meet with the Bylaw officer... we reviwed the official plan .. and confirmed that the use was legal.

Sounds like FR has been on shaky ground for a while... and knew that their land use was outside of the plan.

Too bad... the times I have been there.. I liked it.

can't they come up with some argument about "local economy" ?? that could be good IMO.

i seriously hate it when ppl complain for no reason...the I go to a shooting range and there's this dumb ass neighbor who put little pieces of wood in the lock of the front gate...the president of the club had to replace it. we also had vandalism and we had to put a camera on the front gate...

Does not change the fact that their operation contaveines the foundational legal document that defines the municipality.

you can say it is stupid all you want.. the fact is without plans and controls on what goes where in a municipality.. you get some serious headaches.

You only need to look in 3rd world countries to see what you get in unplanned communities.... we call them "slums" or "shanty towns"

In this case someone we give a crap about is getting the downside of such planning... we all get the upside, even if we don't know it or appreciate it.

alright...when was that little piece of trash document printed out? what year?
how exactly is FR doing illegal activities or what ever that the municipality doesn't allow?

hey, why don't they use this as an argument: since paintball/airsoft is a minority they should have little 'reasonable accommodation' rights.

That would make plenty of sense.
