It is a municiple by-law meaning ... a fine for infraction, not a criminal charge.
Most Municipalities have outright bans for dischargng "firearms" within the Municiple boundaries.. and they define "firearms" as anything.. that discharges anything.. including sling shots, pea shooters, rubber band guns.

To my understanding the drive is to ban the sale of and possession of replicas from anyone under the age of 18.. A move that we should support.. and in fact lobby for not resist as it is one more regulation that may bee seen as "enough" with respect to replicas and prevent any amendment to the federal laws.

The bottom line is that nothing has really changed for us.

Would it make much sense for an underage person to show up at a protest to un-ban alcohol?

was the region... this is old news, the proposed the ban on minors having them many months ago, and the council finally passed it. this is good as far as I'm concerned, cause we (Durham and Airsofters) don't want the toy guns we use in minor's hands. ah well back to my browsing as I wait for the wife to call me back so I find out what mystery cheque was written for...either that or the damn babysitter is cashing them faster now.

Why would anyone with half a brain protest Emery's extradition? It defies logic. He allegedly broke a US law by sending prohibited material to the US. He should be tried in a US court, and if convicted, rightfully spend the next 20 or so years in a US jail. Fair is fair. The knew the game; he broke the rules in the name of profit. He shouldn't have done the crime if he can't do the time.

Seriously, if he wasn't a pseudo-celebrity in this country for giving "the man" the metaphorical finger and thumbing his nose at the laws of the land, would anyone support him? What if the shoe was on the other foot? If someone from a foreign land broke our laws in our country, I doubt there's be as much support from fellow board members to let them go scot free. Most folks here (and I include myself in that number) would be screaming for his head, and rightfully so.

This is a direct reaction from the lost appeal three weeks ago. This is better then expected. We were told the day of the trial that posession was to be made illegal to anyone, any age. There will be more information available. I am going to start a thread with some of the documents.

Just gotta read between the lines. Really not a big deal for us at all, it's targetting those under 18, and it'll actually work in our favour (in my mind, am open to edumacation) if all municipalities followed this to the letter.

Oshawa looks to ban toy guns

(CBC) - Replica handguns may soon be outlawed in Oshawa, a city east of Toronto, in an effort to tackle increasing use of the fake firearms in intimidation and crime, the mayor says.

City council is expected to approve a bylaw Tuesday evening banning the use or display of imitation guns, including toys that could be mistaken for a firearm and guns adapted to not discharge.
Oshawa Mayor John Gray said imitation guns are being used by criminals and children trying to scare others.

"It's the fact that these things are dead ringers for the real thing," Gray told CBC Radio's Metro Morning in an interview Tuesday. "Why don't we just say that we as a society really don't need this?"

Oshawa is following in the footsteps of Scugog Township, north of the city, which was one of the first Ontario municipalities to institute such a bylaw. Since early last year, those under the age of 18 have been prohibited from possessing a replica firearm while on public property or on private property where the public has general access.

Gray said a "compelling presentation" by Durham Regional Police Const. Todd Petzold convinced the city about the dangers of imitation guns.

"We want to avoid that situation where at some point a police officer may find him or herself faced off with someone brandishing a replica gun," said Gray. "That officer's not going to know that it's a replica."

Scugog has experienced visible results since the ban's implementation early last year, said Gray, with schools reporting that replica guns aren't being found in lockers and students aren't carrying them on their waists anymore.

The mayor knew of no statistics on the use of toy guns in crime or schools in his community. He said residents' response to the proposed bylaw has been "quiet."

The bylaw is expected to pass Tuesday night and immediately go into effect if there is no appeal.

If passed, letters will be sent out to stores informing them of the bylaw so they stop stocking their shelves with the fake weapons.

Enforcement of the bylaw would be done by municipal, provincial and federal police.

Agreed... this is good... and works to our benefit...

If we had an association.... it should do a press release coming out in favour of a GTA wide ban...

But we don't .... so we won't

Am I the only one to notice that those who are worried are, mostly, not age-verified?

If you mean not age-verified as in under-aged than I wouldn't put it that way. I have friends that are well over 18 and are contemplating about Airsoft, just really worried about the legality of it ... but than again I know where your stand point is.

If you're over 18, what is the worry? If folks finally follow the basic rules surrounding this sport there will be no problems.

It's those who dont that are the problem.

The thing is though, he is a Canadian citizen that never stepped a foot on US land. Should all the gays in Canada be extradited to Pakistan to be beheaded? I don't think so.

Doesn't make sense to me, and haven't yet been diagnosed to have less than half a brain.

You would likely have to anyway.
