What's the bolt assembly like? Is it kind of like the ICS?

To tell you the truth, I really don't like CA's quality, but this one looks like it's built preeeetty solidly.

I have the compact version and that the bolt goes only as far as the TM Ak's.

So I assume that this 74 has the same bolt.

The CA is supposedely TM based, thus, the bolt is a tin plate that can move only half way, correct?

Kokanee, can you post some high resolution pics of the gun as it is right now?

Cheers,
Alex

That's a thing of beauty.... May I ask what you've invested in it so far? It would give me an idea of what I'd have to invest to have one looking so sweet.

thx!

Of course;

Externally a guarder bolt (i'd recommend the newer 2007 model so it slides better, the earlier one sticks quite a bit and can be a pain to fiddle with); as well as a guarder pistol grip that I dyed the right shade w/ "rit" brand dye.

Internally a prometheus ms100 spring and a stock TM piston+piston head assembly to replace the factory CA piston (which was garbage).

Kokanee, I saw your gun at QP3, wood looks amazing. Is there any way you can post a tutorial. I want to give wood on my gun more realistic look.

kos, this time CA copied Guarder/Ino AK kits. Outer barrel assy, front trunnion and some other parts are pretty much identical to Guarder kits.

You'll need;

- Handful of stones, preferably ones w/ sharp edges;
- coarse steel wool; and
- minwax #255 wood stain;

Begin by taking a handful of the rocks and rubbing it vigorously (no comments!) over the wooden parts of your AK. You'll want to get some nice deep scratches and grooves into the wood, but don't go crazy - it doesn't take long to get the desired effect. Remember to let the topography of the wood determine where the scratches end up - if there is a sunken area that is not getting nicked up, leave it be - this simulates actual wear.

Now take the coarse steel wool and repeat the above process, removing the outer varnish layer from the raised sufaces of the wood. Leave areas that are not naturally affected alone.

Use a damp cloth/paper towel to remove all the wood dust you have made from the wood, and let the pieces sit for about 15 minutes.

Now apply a generous coating of the stain over the wood parts, let sit for another 15 minutes and then wipe any excess off. Let stand overnight and in the morning your parts should be ready to go.

And that handle grip needs to be a bit more orange.

Very nice man. Scuff up the launcher a bit, and in my opinion lose the recoil pad, something doesn't look right about it. But otherwise that gun is beautiful!
