El-Cheapo-Nerdo Chrono (Not popcan)

Don't think it was posted anywhere before, briefly searched the forum. (Saw it on another forum)

http://www.seattleairsoft.com/module...php?storyid=15

Seems to be fairly accurate. (Way more accurate than the pop can chrony)

Though they could of used something safer instead of using 2 stools. Fairly practical if you have a laptop to bring to your "shooting range" since shooting an airsoft in your living room or bedroom isn't exactly the greatest idea.

Wear your goggles/mask if you're going to try this

Simpler to buy a real chrony. They are not that horribly expensive, and the results are correct.

It's true that they aren't too horribly expensive...

But for guys that have too much time on their hands and can't rationalize dropping at least $75 this would be great...

...I'm sure that lighter paper would make it more accurate too.

interesting to say the least. At least it seems to be a much more accurate way of measuring other than the coke can test

This is brilliant. Visit some dollar stores and you can get sketchy microphones for a buck each. Even though a chrony isn't that expensive, this is preatty much cheap-as-free for most people.

Great find!

On the last page, they compared their "ghetto" chrony against their purchased chrony, and it stacked up pretty well. But since breaking the paper loses some fps, you'll have to adjust the results a bit by a fixed constant.

Cool. Reminds me of an article I posted a month and a bit ago regarding long range testing of a few rifles (.45-70-500 being one) that was done in the late 1800's, to determine bullet travel time they had a wired radio handset near the gun, and a guy with the other handset in a bunker near the target wall, well over 4500 yards away, he's start the watch at the sound of the shot and stop it upon impact. Recall some of them having a flight time of 21 seconds.

Overall, clever approach!

i dont have the time to read the entire article but just from the first page is seems very very smart and works time for my personal test of the chrono.

You'll also need to read the last page for their unit convertor. (Or use a calculator)

Yeah the part you can't really see in the photos is that we had a backstop behind the second stool to catch BBs.

And in testing the two guns we got a rough idea of how much initial BB speed affects the rate at which is loses speed over the 10' gap - and it's factored into the calculator. So really, just plug in your numbers and it should be fairly accurate.
