For the following reasons, this is a big problem; schools, even former schools, are in high population areas.
The odds of being seen are extremely high, and you'd be seen by curious children or parents. I dont want to think about the shit that would follow.
If you rented the building, you must allow for security, cleanup, damages, etc.
If you dont have a contact with the local police to help you deal with paperwork and legalities... I sure as hell would not even try.

I've seen, in person, a full SWAT team react to a really stupid call. If a member of the public can mistake a guy dressed in 18th century clothes and carrying a flintlock musket for a "GUY WITH A SHOTGUN!!!" (Yes, it's true), then what we play with is sure to give them a heart attack.

Why dont you look around for a former warehouse, old office building or old factory instead? If it's out of view, bonus. Those exist in most cities/suburbs.

As for the school, Yes, it would be incredibly uber and sweet, but would most likely attract more bad attention than anything.
Get firefox, you can get all kinds of add ons. including a 'leetkey' translator

let me demonstrate by translating a sentence:

Morse code:

The highschool we're using was closed, then bought by a private individual, who in turn rented it out to a band for quite some time, then after they we're done using it as their party house/recording studio he starting looking for other people interested in using it. The Edmonton Police use it for some of their training and there's an indoor archery group that rents the gym so it wasn't really a problem at all for us to get the place. We just need to keep the bb's to a minimum afterwards and if we break anything we pay for it.

Our plan is to do a training day at the beginning where a few of the more real-life experienced people in our club will show the new guys the ropes of stacking up and entering a room, then we'll play for a bit, and at the end everyone's chipping in to help clean up the bb's with push brooms and shopvacs. Easy peasy and fun. And indoors. And cheap.

There is also an abandoned hospital in Edmonton here we were trying to get to use, but I think it's off the radar. It's a very popular place for Indy movies to be shot so it's almost always in use.

I'd be in for that. Too bad you're on the tip of the country. Still, I and many others would be willing to make the trip for massive hospital CQB hell. Talk about scary at night too.

Get this hospital and the players will come!

You can generally rent schools during the summer. My highschool gets rented out for filming during the summer preatty much every year. I'm sure that if you contact the school board about it, you can get approval.

Always remember, green is the loudest colour.

Does not solve the visibility problems, or the possible damages to the facility and related costs. And you got to have the 'green'. Some of those places are rather pricey.

Filming is one thing, but milsim CQB? That probably wont go down too well.

But, some guys here did it, maybe ask them in PMs?

Hahaha love the way that was stated.

But yeah, with schools in the middle of the city, I'd say forget it and look for something on the outskirts of town.

Even go to your closest low populated town (I live in Brantford, So something like Paris)
You could probably find some building/wearhouse/school/church/scary medieval castle of doom. That you'd have a better chance of getting your hands on.

Than in a more populated area, that has a lot more to deal with (governing wise)

Me and my friend have been contimplating organising a game like this for a long time.

It's just a matter of a lot talking, phone calls and money.

Another good thing to look into would be quarries, that are "abandonned" or not in use, find some numbers make some calls.

I know theres a few around Brantford here that I may look into for a pretty good scenario. (Nice and out of the public eye as well)

But for the love of God or whatever, make sure you get all the paperwork done, and cover all the angles before even charging your batteries for a game of this nature. It's nothing like going to FR to play, you gotta really make sure your not gonna end up with the game ending abruptly with the E.R.T showing up.

But yes I'd really love to hear what the guys did with the hall pass game.

(As in speaking with the local authorities etc...)

Because it is somewhat awkward walking into your local police station saying you want to run a CQB milsim airsoft game in a highschool.

I couldn't see that going over too too well. There's probably a better way of approaching this sort of situation that may work out to your advantage... If anyone has any tips with that, (from experience) please share.

Hey Greylocks, I wonder if Terry Mathews is still looking for people to "lease" some of all those buildings he's built around Ottawa for the high tech community. Some of em are high rises. That'd be fun to get a level on. All the windows are tinted so you'd just have to keep the lights to a minimum and low at night not to let people see in during night games. Could open it up like an indoor laser tag feild! But have Airsoft let in! Cost quite a bit of quid though.

But the real question for you while the topic of using buildings be it a high school or not right now. I think it was you earlier who said why not just use an old Warehouse. Is there many of those in our area? That are "empty"? If so I wouldn't mind getting involved in the planning and process of getting something like that set up for a big game day during the summer maybe...

What happens when you shoot all the windows out?

yah Kanyon, four pane windows build to withstand HEAVY rain and thunderstorms, snow and ice storms, as well as be strong enough to withstand a person flying into so he don't break through.... I don't think the BB is gonna hurt much on those riser buildings. I'd personally think the glass would be as strong if not stronger than the ballistics plastic in your goggles...

I think you're best bet, just to take it safely is get someone who has lots of contacts and the contacts can try to work something out which makes one less thing to worry about. Then theres the problem about regular people. Sound proofing and shutting the blinds would help but what about heat? is there a ventilation system that can cool the school off if things get too hot? so you might have to open some windows. With sound proofing something that can reduce sound not dramatically but somewhat is putting a blanket over a window leaving an "air pocket". I don't know if you get what i mean but basically it works the same as double glassed windows which trap heat in them. Except it "traps" the sound and reduces the amount of noise going outside.

Bottomline, I still think you should put more thinking into this plan longer and it should be more enjoyable and the chances of getting into shit is reduced.

Just got back from our highschool day. Really really good times. One of the best possible setups for CQB ever... All I can say is I hope we get to use this place more regularly... there were still textbooks in the classrooms, even in the chemistry lab there were still chemicals and microscopes in one closet.

We had a good turnout of around 20 guys (which is nice considering it's final season for students) and we did CQB training in the morning for a few hours, then we did a few terrorist/bomb scenarios and ended with a really fun scenario that I don't feel like explaining. It was a great time and the highschool atmosphere just added immensely to the whole experience.

You betcha, at least here in Mb. Total cost for 12 hrs of janitorial staffing and building rental at my rather small 700-student rural High School? About $700 last I checked.

Thats crazy expensive...I always imigined like 200 max...
