mike, that HK416 is perfect for us to learn with, even when it was working it sucked...i got it working btw...still a POS next to the G&G cm16 tho..I charged the 8.4v that came with it and while i had the 9.6 or whatever in it eventually it fired like 100 rounds out and now it works but its so shitty next to the raider and every other gun we own between us...i think id raither have the dan wesson in a skirmish against you cause i hate fuckin with the wheel on that mag, id rather fire 6 time and know i have to reload then deal with the inconsistency of that thing...and it looks like a toy and feels like a toy. you know i dont want to injure anyone, but i still want to hurt my opponent a little bit if i hit ya and that clear plastic riffle only fires .2s 100-120ft and doesnt hurt at all at ten feet...great for kids if they have parents who might not want them using realistic guns..
I think Mike wants an AEG that will accuratley send a .3g BB through a pop can consistently from 80 (actual) yards out, straight out of the box without having to make upgrades or put mods on it...

Gonna be real hard to find a stock gun that does that consistently.
But that kind of performance is only a hop rubber and a barrel away on a lot of guns.

If you're gonna do it, do it right. Normally I'd recommend getting a gun-tech to do it, but seeing as how there's a bunch of you and you're fairly remote, it may not be a bad idea to learn. There's some decent YouTube videos on mechboxes and shimming, etc, also there's tons of reading on how to clean, grease and what products to use and where to get them. Having a practice gun is good, but make sure you understand the goals of fitting each piece, it'll make the whole thing a lot easier. Do it in a room/space where when things explode (and they will) you can find all the tiny springs and parts and crap. Nothing like loosing your anti-reversal latch spring when you're almost completed the mechbox and now you can't move on.

Or just get a GHK m4 and shoot 200 feet out of the box. Minor upgrades like a hop and new barrel that a monkey could do for 250 or more.

Skip buying a "decent AEG" and then learning how to shim and grease and take apart a mech box and buying a metric ass load of parts that would add up to two guns or more in the end.

soo it sounds like there are two parts i will have to invest in after the gun itself, a nicer barrel and a new hop up...are there gunsmiths on the island or in van city who can install those on the spot if i brought him all the parts? it would definitely be worth the upgrades, the travel, and cost of the gunsmith to have it all professionally installed the first time with a bit of a slight demonstration, or simplified explanation of what he did to the gun, but i have no idea what gunsmiths are like, or if they have long waits...the thought of swapping barrels doesn't seem to intimidating but for some reason i am worried that i would destroy my rifle while putting a new hop up on..

Either go with an EDGi barrel, or a PDI barrel.

6.01 if you want higher fps (25fps boost usually) and better accuracy at close range
6.03 if you want more range and better accuracy at range.
6.05 if you want your bb's to visit the bright yellow sphere god in the sky.

ok cool...

and would an EDGi, or a PDI barrel be compatible with most AEGs? so i could put it on different riffles when i am using them? and would you recomend changing the barrel first or do i pretty much need to upgrade both to notice any difference?

something like this?

Do not buy a 6.05.

What length are you looking for?

PDI you can order custom length barrels...but only in 6.01 or 6.05... 6.01 will work perfectly if you are using quality bb's and only really looking for 250 feet.

EDGi is the best of the best, and you have to custom order them through him on facebook. I would suggest a 6.03 if you are looking at 250 feet+.

Also, as thunder and many other people will tell you...changing a barrel and hop is stupidly simple. Just look up the guide online for your rifle and its dead easy. You should change both of them at the same time.

PDI you can look under TM AEG and find your gun:

http://www.x-fire.org/etop/01.html

There is also a custom cutting service you can order if you want, have to look through the site tho...but they sell all pdi parts and even hop up parts.

are only some select brands like TM customizable with these type parts? I guess i will want an AEG that i can upgrade in other ways too, but when i first get it i plan on buying the replacement barrel, and i guess hop up for it at the same time.

i wonder why companies dont sell guns already modified to this performance...there must be a reason, they could be make fortunes off lazy people like me, haha, im not really that lazy....its just that all my guns work, for year(s) now, and for the most part they all work just as well as they did when they were brand new, but have rarely had to open them up to for jams or cleanings....but i also dont have a Hi-performance primary that functions the way so many other players speak about theirs, and since ive never even seen a gun actually fire an airsoft round the full length of a football field i reallly want to..

lol mike is soo lazy...haha jk, mike has just never been into practical weapons, and has always shopped for realistic replicas, but now that he is using them to shoot at people he wants hot primary that, like he said shoots 90 YARDS accurately instead of 90 feet....probably doesnt care what kinda AEG he puts all this into, your just trying to educate yourself on options for reaching your range/accuracy goal, am i right mike?

What's wrong with a 6.05? That's not a bad bore by any means, and PDI makes good barrels. If you're on a budget, go for a Prometheus 6.03. If you've got cash to burn, go for an EDGi. PDI lies somewhere in between.

For hopup rubbers, common recommendations are G&G Green (because it's easy to modify), and Prometheus Purple (but these are kind of hard to get).

EdGI is best of the best? LOL
Are you saying this from personal experience or are you just reading random forums? Or maybe you're just judging based on price?

EdGI is very well machined, hop up window is very clean, customer service is great... But its brass. Fucking brass.

Obviously inferior material, bent easily, similar tolerance to PDI - the same if you count significant digits.

EDGi barrels are thicker and heavier reducing vibrations, if you get any dirt or scratches inside the bore you can actually polish them out unlike a PDI, and once the barrel is installed into the gun... not sure how you would manage to bend it.

But to each his own, the EDGi vrs PDI debate is long and endless. Just go with whichever one fits your budget.
