I'm right and right. Had fun teaching students how to discover for themselves which dominance they had, then coping or overcoming.

Would an optic designed to be used with both eyes open, like a reflex sight, work?

Learn to use both. It's paramount for CQB when changing hands to maneuver left and right corners.

I used to have this problem when I started, just with pistols.

with rifle I was right eye, right hand shooting.

pistol was left eye, right hand shoot.

I'm pretty sure I was able to train it out of me since my left eye is actually weaker than my right, it just wants to pick up the sights on the pistol for some reason.

The general idea is to shoot with whatever hand matches your eye dominance since it takes less effort to develop the muscle memory versus changing your eye dominance.
That comes from several years of coaching and competing in archery which generally takes a lot more coordination.

Learn to shoot with both hands and become familiar with the functionality of the platform when using it with either hand.

There are many parts you can add to your rifle to make it south paw friendly (I'm ambidextrous by choice, but am south paw dominant and have to do this to all my guns).

Practice, practice, practice. At home do quick drills to get comfortable with aiming in slow and fast fashion as well as manipulating your platform from both sides in all stances, rounding corners, reloading, transfer of shoulder, etc.

Once you practice this for a little while and get to put the practice to use in gameplay you'll become more comfortable with it.

Like ShelledPants said, learn to do both. The more you practice, the better you'll get. Eventually, you'll forget that you ever had a dominant eye.

Learn to use both eyes go through some marksmenship principals when you find yourself closing an eye.. I guess I'd be left eye dominant but right handed.. Me personally learned on c7 with the c79 optical and then the c9.. Its not totally wrong to close an eye either just don't keep it closed because in sniper/dmr role you'll develop tunnel vision and you'll always get shot from the side your eyes closed lol.. In an assaulter position always 2 eyes open when room clearing or cqb because you'll depend on your peripheral vision.. Also find position is also important when taking up a sight picture wear low profile goggles if possible.. Just my 2 cents

Eye dominance is a natural preference that can be eliminated with training. and should be. I've seen a lot of people explain away why they can't hit with "oh I'm left eye dominant"

Which is the same as saying.. I don't know how to shoot.

I am in the same situation.

After a few years of working on it your best solution is to ALWAYS aim with both eyes open.

With a rifle, using a RDS, it's easy. Basically look at your target only, then position your rifle/body to put the dot on your target (not the other way around). You get great target aquisition that way.

With a scoped/zoomed optic, it's really hard, but with traning it works. You basically will see everything with your left/dominant eye, except a round "zoomed" zone, very much like some video games work. At first, the image will move around/blur. Keep focusing on you target, and the zommed image will become clear, with the background/surroundings blurry. It's good enough to see movements/not get flaked.

For pistols, I don't remember the name of the stance I use... basically you hold your pistol with your right hand. Position yourself facing right of the target, then bring your right arm across your chest and sight with you left eye. The pistol ends-up vertical, no angle, your profile is a lot smaller and your right eye gives you incredible surrouding awareness. You won't see two sets of sight because your noze bridge prevents your right eye from seeing your pistol.
