Question Age Verification Suggestion...

I am posting my first thread on this forum and already I'm telling you a better way to do something that you've gone over a couple thousand times already!

Great - you'll all really welcome me...but here it goes:

I agree completely with Age Verification. But I have been waiting over 2 months for my regional rep to reply to the email address posted on this forum to get back to me - so how about this:

Most of us "Adults" have Driver's Licenses; most of us have family doctors - HIGHLY respected members of our community. So what if you had a nice family doctor who on your next visit you asked if you could please photocopy your DL on a piece of his personal office stationary, have him write something nice about you (ie, "This person is of mainly sound mind and not overly poor body"), you both sign it - and then just fax the document to Airsoft Canada?

If in any doubt at all about it's authenticity - just phone the docter's number and when his assistant say's "Dr. Y's office - what can I help you with?"; hang up real fast and accept the veracity of the document and the person sending it.

Now you'll all tell me what's wrong with my suggestion - go ahead; fire away!

Well, it seems like a good idea, but meat would still have to verify you through asc (he has to type in a code to make you veryifyed)...and I think thats what takes for ever becasue he has to do that for every person. and there's only one of him.

Probably shouldn't be pestering your doctor with something like this...

Thats not very polite... forcing the waiting-room patients to wait even longer.

and that too...I know if I needed to get my med's or whatever I needed and found out the person in the waiting room was getting the doctor to photocopy and sign a bunch of stuff that had nothing to do with the persons health, Well I'd be pretty pissed.

So then get someone else other than a doctor to do it...
What if we went to the local police station and got an officer to sign it with his badge number and then meat or whomever could call if there was something fishy and ask to speak to that particular officer... that way if anybody gets around the 18yr verifcation it's not on ASC but rather the law for forging a false statement that that particular person was of age...

I feel that it can do nothing but good to get the law in on the subject helping us keep it safe and such.

I know I'm about to get flamed here... but that's a quick idea that just came to me... yea or nay? let put to a discussion

Edit: this thread should be moved in with the other special thread of this topic maybe?

The system is fine the way it is.

Why should Meat or any other ASC volunteer verifyer have to go out of their way to confirm a person's age (ie. calling a third party)? Its the person's own responsibity to verify themselves by either going to a game or attending an appointment with an ASC verifier.

No that wouldent work either becasue for one, my dad would just verify me then, and 2 anyone could easily make up a fake number (the badge number for the RCMP means that you were that number to graduate from the training camp in Regina) so pretty much anything between 1000-15000 would be accurate. (I think thats the way it worked)...but the point is there would be ways of getting around it.

Just a small comment - I went and checked my email and found a message from my Vancouver Island Rep on it from my email again to him today...figures - doesn't it? But I still stand by the theory of a respected member of the community verifying you by fax...

And how long do you think this would take in your doctor's office anyway...maybe 60 seconds? Come on - 60 seconds of your doctor's time for helping you enter a sport for a sounder mind and body is NOT out of line. It's part of his job! And on that statement I'll stand my ground against anyone!

You can do all the standing you like but the system isn't going to change any time soon. More reps may be added but this is the way the system was agreed upon and this is the way it will probably stay.

and people complain that people abuse healthcare. I'll bet if you had to pay for a doctor to veryfy your age it would cost at least $20.

Sure I can guess a badge number ... but how would I know the officers name?

And if you got your dad to verify you... ASC would have a record that it was your dad that did it and if you went and did something stupid and ended up in court it would fall on your dad for lying to ASC that you were of age and that you should/would have never had access the the buy and sell if ASC had know the truth.

This was a suggestion for those that are not able (ie. do not live within reasonable distance) of a verification rep, namely atlantic canada. But it could easily work across the board. and if you want to make it so that Meat wouldn't have to call a third party... have the officer write a letter, put his badge number and name on it, sign it and then sign his business card... staple the business card to the letter, scan it and send the scan to meat. That way you can match the signature between the card and the letter... as well as the name and the badge number...

Ok, well I was just saying. But honostly the police don't care about some stupid verification for something on the internet. I'll bet if you walked into the nearest police station asking them to verify you and to fax some stuff and ask for there badge number, they would just tell you to go away, and say they have more important things to do (and no i'm not joking)...Trust me I'v seen it first hand (I got to work at the police station for one day for school) someone will call and say "oh there was a drive off at our gas station" and they just said "well it's your fault for letting them gas up before they paid"...I know i'v gone a bit off topic, but honostly the way asc is now is most likely the way it will stay.

you would figure that the cops wouldn't mind verifying asc players. if i was a cop, i would feel more comfortable knowing that not just another 13yr old kid is about to buy a gun cause i checked him out. also, i would prob keep a personal list of whomever i have verified so i can go back to it if i heard an incident aroused from airsoft.

honestly i don't think they ccare either.

??

that is the strangest thing I have ever heard.

Last time I was sick and needed to see a doctor in a private clinic, it took me 2 houres wait. They where 2 docs working that thay and they where busy as hell.

When I do some escorts in hospital, it take about 3 to 6 houres to see someone and they are also very busy. So this is a very bad Idea.

and Why would a doctor autentifiate you. He don't even know what airsoft is.

It's good the way it is. We just need more regionnal reps. Im a rep and Im very busy. I get a lot of requests for verifications. But what people don't understand is we are not paid to do that. I get hasked a lot to move on my free time to their location and all. If it's near my place I will move, but I sometime get asked to go 30-45 minutes drive from my home to register someone... People have to understand that this is a huge favor and they need to haul their asses to game that we are attending to get verified.

anyway, that's all for ranting tonight.

We have a good systeme, we juste need to expand it.
