well i love the gun, and I'm a "long range combatant" anyway, even in paintball. But i'm not going to spend 500 bucks on the polarstar kit, thats worth more than the G96 and I could easily use that money to simply buy the F2000 or PDR-C. Appreciate the suggestion, but that's not a viable option for me.

I was looking at upgrading the barrel/hop-up prior to inquiring about the HPA set up, would that help? I could simply use the G96 for warmer weather games and my other marker (when i get one atm its a VA MP5A2) for colder weather/cqc games…

Main problem is the material and cost.

Modern GBB uses liquid propellent (because you can store greater amount in liquid state than gas) The resovoir store is made of cast zinc aluminium (some are CNC after cast)
The issue with these two statement means you cannot store HPA viablily in the current mag.
If you store at 150psi you would get like 3 shots (1 perfect fps, 1 significantly reduce, and third barely cycle)
If you store at the typical 3000/4500psi, the mag will explode due to material. (I've a gas mag blown up when pressure exceed 200psi)

CO2 & HPA tank (paintball tank for example) only has one opening for a reason, reduce failure points. Hypathetically speaking, you could make a non-12g CO2 or HPA mag. however, the cost would be astronomically unfeasible.

Found on some french forums that some people have tried (or heard, not clear they dont make full sentences...) that it's the space in the mags the problem too. Co˛ is in liquid in the mag, so I understand for those, but GG was pretty sure was in gas form.

Think best thing is to buy 1 mag, tape a sticker on it to identify my (testing mag) and try it myself

gg/propane is also liquid in the mag hence why we invert to fill to ket the liquid pass through not just gas
propane is liquid under pressure like co2, and it "boils" to create gas when you open the valve

Ok, throwing the HPA idea out the door, doing some research (should have done it before spontaneously buying the G96 from a local dealer) as to upgrading it to be more consistent with propane (is that really possible?), swapping some internal parts (some people are changing the power-bolt nozzle and hop-up with VSR parts?) and aesthetically I saw a picture of a G96 with a "Tango Down steel 14mm CCW outer barrel" having googled this I have found nothing but random sites or the site which I discovered it. Essentially all i'm trying to do is find a decent outer barrel that actually has threads on the end to install a Gaurder L96 flash hider MAYBE a suppressor down the road for kicks… If anyone has any suggestions that'd help. Seems I can't find any suppliers with what I want despite spending the last two hours searching.

i wouldnt complain too much about 500 bucks, any spring sniper rifle you buy (l96 vsr10) will take 600-100 bucks worth of upgrades to be useable as a sniper weapon otherwise its just a crappy gun with no rate of fire and the same range as an aeg.
the g96 sniper rifle is no different, in stock form it womt really out shoot an aeg and it doesnt have much for upgrades.
(dont know why but i read as g36 when i started posting i thought you wer talkin about a gbbr not a bolt action lol, goin to a hpa setup with the g96 is just about the best way to make it a usefull sniper rifle

Well Hectic like I said, I simply do not have the money to spend on the HPA upgrade… It seems like a great idea, but when i looked into it, all i found was AEG kits, so i'm not having any dice with my searches today. Power-wise the gun shoots hot, so higher weight bbs would drop it but only if I use .4's or higher would it be below 500 (meaning I have to get my lvl 2 sniper cert. just to use this thing unless there's a lower power spring i can throw in there).

here is someone who made the same mistake you made and some folks giving him his options,
baisically youll need a good hop up unit and rubber a good airseal and a hoa kit for it to be a decent sniper rifle, the problem with gas in mag sniper rifles is that the first shot or two may ne close to eachother, then the pressure will fall off every shot thus lowwering fps that will effect how the hop up is applyed and so you wont be able to hit the same static target from the same firing posistion withoit adjusting aim and hop up thus makin it a relativly useless sniper rifle.
a good bolt action rifle need consistancy to repeat the same shot over and over so youll always know where to aim at a given range

That's true……. alright, aside from the very expensive polarstar kit, i saw some G96's with a quick disconnect hpa adapter on the magazine itself. At a guess they drilled/tapped the magazine. I have a small hpa tank as well as a remote line from paintball i could use so that saves some money… and I'm sure i could get the parts from the local hardware stores. My question then, is the regulators. The tank obviously has one, but the system would need at least one more wouldn't it? These magazines can't hold the same pressure as a paintball marker.

right youll need a 5-200psi regulator in line between the other regulator and the mag, you can go with higher but you wont need more then 200 psi and itll give u a safety margin incase u turn it up all the way the mag wont burst.

check the link i posted earlyer to see what you need to build a kit, seems you have the expensive stuff, youll just need to tap the mag a cpl of quick connectors, the list is complete and you can just remkve from the list the stuff you alrdy have

I know hpa is much better, but a quick change co2 adapter attached to a regulator would be far more compact…. might be able to squeeze it into the stock perhaps? thoughts/comments?

No!

Using a heavier bb only reduces the fps of the bb. It does not reduce the impact energy.

Getting your level 2 does not instantly give you the right to shoot at 500fps. It gives your the permission to use a 500fps weapon if and only if the field owner allows it, the host allows it and if you are not veto'd at the field by your peers!

It might seem more compact but now you need to carry several CO2 canisters onto the field then keep track of and carry out the empties. They can get noisy too clanging around in your pockets.

^that, and its 500fps on a .2 gram bb u can use whatever bb weight you want but the velocity will have to be measured with .20 you cant run .40at 500fps thats like 707fps lol
