Dying Recievers?

Hey Guys,

I did use the search, and found a few threads on guys painting the tinted receivers inside and out which i may end up doing however the question i had was Dying.

In my other hobby RC Racing often i will use the "Rite Dye" which is a fabric dye to dye the white which are a plastic nylon material

I am wondering has anyone tried to dye the clear or tinted receivers black? Ideally you boil the water add the dye and drop the plastics in and i tend to leave them in till the water cools and remove. I can't see the receiver material being that fragile that it would warp from the heat of the water?

Thanks again,
Michael Lambert
Soon to be airsoft owner.. KJW P226 in the mail.

I am no expert on the matter but I feel it is usually best to go with the tested methods. Which in this case is spray paint.

If you are colouring something it is just for the look (Which totally matters). It would suck to have a useless gun more than it would suck having a clear one..

Goodluck!

i can see it mealting and deforming from the heat.
go to crappy tire or walmart and buy a can of krylon flat black (or whatever other flat color youd like) and spray thay cansoft.
krylon is made for plastic.
rit dye is handy to dye your burlap or jute thread for makin a ghillie suit but thays about the only use in airsoft.

only 7 bucks for a can of paint lol.
plus logic dictates that heat and plastic dont mix well unless you are tryin to form it and also that dye isnt really the way to color plastic unless it was bein put into the plastic as it was being made.
tho id be interested to see if it would work.
id hate to see someone kill their gun for no reason lol.
wait till the reciver cracks and you gotta replace it then try the dye on the alrdy busted reciver to see how it works. Or go buy a 30 walmart clearsoft and try that.

Plastic doesn't melt at the temperature of boiling water. It'll be fine.

orrrrrr... return the cansoft 226 and get a metal one.

I'm actually interested to see how the dye turns out though.
