OK Just to make sure we're on the same page.... When you say "Hikers" do you mean these (Hiking/Crosstraining shoes)?

http://www.lewholesale.com/catalog/i...ow%20Hiker.jpg

If so I wouldn't trust those for anything tougher than a marked hiking trail in Level 1 or 2 terrain (YDS rating system). I almost got a pair for hiking the Grouse Grind and other light trails that lighter footwear is probably better.

These: http://shoestutor.com/wp-content/upl...0gtx_pew07.jpg

are probably what you want, maybe in more of a higher cut (roll protection) and possibly in a more "earthy tone" but they should be fine for playing.

"Gucci" Military boots like 5.11 or Magnums or w/e (or even "issued military boots") are probably the best and designed pretty much for the activity.

In fact I use a pair of McKinleys I bought $100 on sale at Coast Mountain Sports. Steel shank down the sole, good ankle and roll support, composite toe, and I replaced the stock insoles with Superfeet.

Sorry I have to get to class now but I'll be back if you have any more questions on footwear.

I shoot folks in ankles. Wear boots.

Bare feet hurt too much damn thorns.

Honestly, Its the protection and the support. I find the boots will save your bacon, ankle speaking. Derek has good points about recovering from an ankle injury, it really sucks.

The treads are different too than a hiking boot. Ops boots are better at flinging mud out from them like a snowtire, the hiking boot traps a lot of goo in them. I actually use my "Gucci Magnums" for long hikes when I go thru England and Europe on walking tours. They are also lighter than my merrels or solomons. Plus sooo much more comfy after 8 hours and 45kms.

hope this helps.

Because not every day you play will be 23 C and sunny, as well as the afforementioned reasons.

A good pair boots is essential when you play outdoors
Trust me, I learned the hard-way (my hiking boots that I thought to be great until I walked across what I thought to be shallow mud and ended up playing the next 7 hours with cold wet mud in my boots )

After this learning experience, I now field proper boots with all my impressions (DDR NVA 15 inch jackboots with my WW2 kits - size 9 like everyone else and canadian army boots with my modern german loadout )

I think you guys are too quick to dismiss the role a good pair of tactical sandals can play:

Comfy, stylish and perfect for battle in lush tropical environments

And for more stealthy engagements, check these out...complete with Trades:

Okay so the need for boots established should I bust out the good money and buy some magnums or something like over 100$
or will something like this work
http://www.fcsurplus.ca/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=15423
http://www.globalarmysurplus.com/en/...e-boots-2.html
I mean in my expirience cheaping out usually doesnt work for footwear but I dont use boots
(except wrestling boots but theyre more like overprices socks)

I'd prob go with the jungle boots. Wearing heavy leathers is gonna tear up your feet.. especially if they're steel toed at least that's my opinion. I have desert boots...

Honestly I wear a pair of the CF issue wet weather boots and they are great. Bought them for around $70ish, waterproof and I've taken them through hell and back over 3 years and they still work great. Just really shitty in the winter time though.

Nothing to do with that, the sole's freeze and you get almost no traction

goretex works until the pores in the fabric get clogged by dirt and then you end up sweating like in a sauna.
