Question The price of starting airsoft.

Very new here to ASC, but I need some advice from some helping veterans or knowledgeable folk a like. Now I've seen various post of "what gun to buy" or "what gun is good", but what I would like to know is how much is it going to cost to actually start airsoft. How much is a decent AEG, a reliable and comfortable chest rig, boots and clothes, masks, etc. What I gander, or guess, is that all combined it will be close, if not over, $1000.

Thanks in advance.

Yup airsoft is an addiction, and if you are the kind of person that cares alot about esthetics...(Combat gear, custom pistols, accessories, ....) Well your wallet will hate you....

I'm in the same spot as you and I'm thinking after a Kit, some sights and a half decent AEG, (I"m thinking SRC Gen 3 M4 variant, or the VFC Scar L ) and some high end BB's, I'll have a 1K hole in my wallet.

Happily I got my starter kit at a decent price, a Blackhawk! chest rig, a bungie tri mag pouch, Dump bag and another pouch for just over 100.

Another question, whether it be stupid or not, does anyone know if there is a airsoft store in the Saskatoon area? I'd rather stay away from ordering online for the most part and the classifieds would be my second option to turn to.

depends on how many sacrifices you have to make, usable kits can be as cheap as around 600, good start kits are around 1000
600 for instance can get you a SRC G36, ACM chest rig, BDU, knee pads, ACM boots, few mags and good goggles.
1k can get you a decent gun and a lot of kit

I started with $650 but that was barebone and asking REALLLLLLY REALLLLY nicely to borrow gear from other players. (EDIT: 4 months later I was about $1000 into it but that was getting stuff like Vests and that stuff so I wouldn't have to borrow)

If you already have boots then great, that's $100 less you have to spend. That is unless you want "gucci" military boots (like 5.11, Magnums, etc.) I honestly just use my old hiking boots that have lasted me through everything (although it's getting a bit worn out and I might buy new ones in 1 or 2 years and trust me when I say I do everything with these I do everything, walking in the snow, yardwork, hiking, playing, etc.)

As for Saskatchewan I don't know of any "walk in" stores but there is one person who does run a store but you have to be AV'ed (It's "Sasksoft"). Which just entails a meeting and you've probably read the FAQ's (judging by your first post) so you should already know all about that.

One thing that you definitely would want to get eventually is some of those "superfeet" inserts, I love mine (blue/general purpose) you can also get the Green ones (I think for "high impact" activities and "larger boots" volume wise).

Yeah, $1000 is pretty realistic.

Yeh, 1000$ is the standard to get into airsoft but to be honest I only spended around 900$ because I bought my first AEG from the classfieds

I am a recent startup and I can tell you, it adds up fast!

I went with some decent names in gear such as Propper, ESS (Turbofans), Pantac etc but cheaped out a bit on the guns until I see where this goes.. If you are so inclined to buy optics, extra mags, radios and the like I would conservatively bank on a $1000-$1200 for the whole enchilada!

If you manage to avoid online purchases (which may be difficult) you can save on the goofy shipping and customs charges.

Good luck!

First year I bought gun and shitty camo $350 (late Aug)
Second year I upgraded and got mags and vest $340
This year I got camo and mags/pouches $210

This is rediculouse cuz I still need to get my battery system so I like it and AI grenades/pouches, a radio and headset before may long.

So learn now $1000 or don't bother (cuz it sucks to play a game knowing your TBB is in the mail for another week)!

this is what you absolutely need, prices are super mega average

boots 150$
one AEG 450$
1 to 5 locap magazines, 1 or 2 hicap magazine work at first also, if you don't mind cranking them. 50 to 200$ ?
batteries for the AEG (at least 2) 35$ each
1 battery charger 50$
goggles 100$
+BBs
+gas

things that are very useful:

anti fog 20$
kneepads 40 $
BDU 80 to 120 $ for surplus material
gloves 30 $
some face protection like shemags and stuff 30 $
some way to carry your load (bags, pouches, vest or chest rig, etc) 50 to 250 $

some configs are way more expensive depending on the weapon and the load bearing.

Arent you over exaggerating a bit on some equipment?

I got my full mesh face mask for $20. And its great.

And you can get a good pair of outdoorsy boots for around $100. THe boots I use were $90 and they are leather steal toe work boots. There great.
