about the MP5 SD5 and its steel counterpart.

I'm just wondering about the suppressor.

On the ICS MP5 (or any other MP5 I assume) for airsoft, the suppressor screws on and off.

I'm wondering though, since the suppressor is integral to the gun and is actually built for the gun, on the real steel counterpart is it a screw on/screw off thing like the airsoft version? Or do you have to disassemble the gun or do something more besides just unscrewing it to take it off?

Since today I had an argument with my friend. I, not knowing if he knew of the SD variant, said that the MP5 SD5 uses a suppressor and he complained that the SD5 already had a built in suppressor that's part of the barrel.

I said that that doesn't change the fact that it's a suppressor, and he never backs down from an argument so he says that'd he'd rather say "the barrel acts as a suppressor."

Basically he's saying that the barrel IS the suppressor. Then I argued that it can be detached just like any other suppressor, and that the barrel doesn't actually go into the suppressor itself so the suppressor isn't part of the barrel.

But of course I could be wrong so I'm just asking to see what the right answer is.
Thanks.

No, you can't just screw it off on real steel.

Look here for pictures of the SD variant. Should answer your questions I think. The "silencer" on the airsoft version is a bit different than than the real ones.

Yup, same reference I used.

Use Google before asking simple questions. It works!

Sorry, first placed I looked was on wikipedia and then it didn't tell me what I needed so I thought I'd just grab the word from people who know real guns.

That site is awesome

Don't mean to jack the thread but what is that thing on the MP5 in the first pic? Is that some sort of infrared scope?

Its actually a day visible laser H&K built during the 80s.
because of the size it was quickly dropped and only aftermarket lasers were used.
the first pic is actually a H&K promotional photo not an SF/SEALs photo
