RE: CA Steel Bushings

hi! newbie here. i just want to know the difference between 6mm and 7mm metal bushing. i just got a cam15a4 and it says in the box that it has a 6mm metal bushing while the CA m15a4 CQB has 7mm metal bushing. is there some pros and cons between the 2 bushings?

thanks

Most (but not all) 7mm mechboxes are also reinforced by design. Some 6mm mechboxes are also reinforced, but most are not. The differences between 2 bushing sizes really is not a factor in performance per se.

The difference is more in the mechbox and the ability to upgrade it. 7mm allows you to replace your bushings with bearings that will allow for some smoother operation. A reinforced mechbox will better handle the stresses of upgrading a gun to 400 fps or higher.

thanks for the quick reply :salute: it says in the box that mine has a "6mm oily steel bushing gearbox with new steel gears" is this a reiforced gearbox already? is there a 6mm bearing?

It's a bushing gearbox. It may be reinforced, but you can't tell from the outside, you'd have to open the gun up. Sorry, I haven't worked on any C.A. guns prior to this years generation.

C.A. does make 6mm bearings. I've used them before with no problems. I have their new AK and it has a 7mm oily steel bushing mechbox (or so the box says).

that's true ca slr105a1 (ak47) and the ca CQB came with 7mm oily. i'm planning to modify my gun. do you have any suggestion on what parts to change? i just want to have a consistent and reliable gun. i chronoed mine out from the box and it clocked in at 330 fps and i'm planning to hit 350-370 fps. lastly, i'm planning to get a sub-c batt, any suggestions as to how many volts and mah should i get? thanks in advance :salute:

Youu can get a 110m/s spring (Guarder SP110 for example) and a metal spring guide. you could keep everything else stock and you should be ok.

Stick with an 8.4v battery with that level of upgrade and you'll be fine.

No, you should be fine with the parts. As far as battery goes, use the largest mah size you can fit into the gun. Sub-c cells will be anywhere from 1700mah nicad to 3600mah nimh. You're in a warm climate, so either will be fine.

9.6v would be the limit IMHO and 8.4v seems to work best with C.A. guns and their new 7mm gearbox.
