cutting and threading a gbb outer barrel
hi,
i'm from toronto, i have a we m4 cqbr, i wanna trim the original barrel to 7 or 7.5 inch anyone can give me some pointers?? been searching though many site, all short outer are either out of stock or cost like $80 for it and only fit wa...! some fellow airsofters told me to find a machine shop to cut it...! anyone knows who will able to do so? please hook me up if you know anyone! i'm hoping to trip it to 7 inch and have the left over to re thread as a barrel extension, so i can convert it to around 10 inch if needed thx in advance...!! |

You can find a machine shop, but they might be able to thread the end for you. Your best bet, if you're mechanically inclinded, is to get the tools to do it yourself.
Just cut off the barrel with a hacksaw about 1/2-3/4 of an inch in front of your desired length, then thread the 1/2-3/4 inch portion and you're done! You can find decent tap and die sets on eBay or online. Just make sure you get the good stuff from America or Europe. Some of the comparables that are made in China break with certain barrels or have crooked threading. If you're a little confused by what I'm saying, check out "rethreading a saiga" on Youtube. A guy does it to his AK, but it's the same exact concept. Good thing about doing it yourself is you'll have the tools and know-how if you ever have to do it again. |

FYI most airsoft flash hiders use a M14x1 (Metric 14mm with a 1 mm thread pitch) counter-clockwise thread. The taps and dies can be found but not easily (evil-bay as suggested above is a good bet) as clockwise threads are more commonly used.

Honestly, a shop is probably going to cost you $60-80 anyways.

well thx guys, i give up on that... now planning to keep the length and use a gas block to kind of blend in the gap between the silencer and the rails
so now here is another question, anyone know what is the diameter of the we m4 outer barrel? cant find any info at the moment, none of the retailer site state that...! |
