A&K SVD Side mounts?

Hello all.

Recently I bought an A&K SVD Dragunov, and boy its a hell of a lot of bang for your bucks.

My only concern thus far is the current scope I got; a replica POSP scope. Well, lets say you get what you pay for. :smack:

Was doing some more research to find a possible side mount for it (harder than I thought) and came to a couple but was wondering if the expertise of the Internets and all its wisdom would help me make an informed decision.

The first is a Battleaxe AK QD side mount. Seems to have the same dovetail as the POSP, which leads me to believe it may fit but the AK74 and the AK47 are smaller weapons and thus may have smaller/ different rails. Don't have one to confirm with so was hoping someone with more Kalashnikov experience than myself may be of assistance.
See Link:

So my search continued and I also found the MTK-83 20mm Top Mount Rail.

And Finally in a desperate struggle I found what may/ may not even remotely work. The AK Metal Scope 20mm Rail.

So wise ones of the web, have my efforts been fruitless, or have I at last found a side mount worth my hard earned bucks?

P.S. Appreciate your guys help!

Or if you fancy bringing your own scope to the party, use one of these low profile bp-02 rails. It is a solid piece of kit, and fits the SVD like a glove:

And just so you know : don't buy a Chinese (even if real steel) scope, it's not the same mount between China and Russia.

I have the ACM AK 74 (not AK 47) mount and it is a perfect fit for the A & K SVD.

So i got my SVD BP 02 from kalinka optics today.

Took me and a buddy with a hammer and some card board to get it on since its no broken in yet. Was all good till we noticed that the damned thing cants to the left, which is a big deal once you got a scope on there.

I e-mailed Kalinka but i'm posting here too in case you guys could reply before they do since they take 48 hours or more. since you've all been where I've been, no patience what so ever when it comes to getting to test out your new toy, was hoping some of you would lend some more of your Kalashnikov expertise.

Thanks again guys!

What "cants to the left"? Mount or scope or reticle?

Soldier, be very careful with those side rails. Don't put too much pressure on them, as I could see part of it snapping off with the forces you are putting on it.

I wouldn't blame the mount in this case, given the build quality on the A&K SVD. Personally, I ended up filing the inside of the scope mount. The super tight fit is actually due to the ridge that protrudes along the top cover of the SVD. This is where you must file the mount. To prove it, take your top cover off entirely and mount again, you will see how easily it goes on. Without filing, if you look at how the Kalinka mount is sitting on the rail (looking along the receiver from front), you can just tell it isn't sitting right.

Once filed, I corrected the slight off-center by zeroing my Leapers. All good now, and I love the look. Maybe I'll post a picture or two of where I filed, if needed?

Pictures would be fantastic sixb0nes! I think I get what you mean but i'd rather be safe than file down the wrong part.

I originally filed the rear upper weaver on my posp to get it on smoothly but it was a junk scope (height and elevation don't work, all show no bite).

by cant to the left I meant the whole side mount I bought cants to the left by like 5-10 degrees, which obviously translates to an F'd up sight picture which makes zeroing a joke.

Edit: Thanks again for the help guys I really appreciate it.

Took a shot of the mount, just to ensure we're dealing with the same one. Second picture shows where I filed. Haven't repainted yet, and you can see black paint transferred from the SVD where pressure points are. Hope this helps:
