When you sign up for a game, there usually are rentals. Just make it known you will need one and someone will be willing to help you out. Get in touch with Brian McIllmoyle as he runs TTAC3 which (in my opinion) is the best CQB venue we have, Brian is a very knowledgeable person and should be able to help you out with rentals as well as getting you AV'ed.

haha your car analogy works just fine, but then again buying a new car is always more reliable then a used one =\

Would getting a rental be wiser? Not really sure who to ask but I think I'll try
then, get AV'd and wait while you save some cash. peruse the classifieds and buy a 'used' gun off a gundoc.

getting a rental is to get an idea what platform you will ultimately want to run. for me I started with the mp5, got into m4's and then an AK's. I'll rotate out depending on my mood and the game.

OK,

So the general consensus is to either buy used or use a rental, given my price range...
Alright thats what I expected I guess

Amazing to see all these replies in such a short period of time

As another question I guess, what would be a good beginner friendly M4 (from classifieds)

Is it true the wobble issues on TM M4? I guess I'm not being too smart focusing on M4 but I really do like the look of a nice M4...

CA proline beats TM as far as M4's go and TM M4's do have a good amount of barrel wobble to them.

No it's a good choice to focus on the M4 or AK platform. They're great guns.

Also note that there are some developments in Airsoft (you can't see it and I don't think we can tell you because you're not AV'ed) but basically look out for cheaper/more reasonably priced guns in about 3-4 months time.

EDIT: As for wobble, all you need to do is get some loctite and a hexkey or w/e. Other options include a free float system to take off weight from the barrel and a few other "fixes".

You need to re-read Rock 'N' Roll Outlaw's post about additional costs. $300-$400 won't get you anywhere in airsoft.

Actually M4 is probably one of the best due to the mass numbers of it available everywhere... easiest to get parts for it from what I see anyways...

People prefer AKs and AUGs I think because of the version 3 mechbox and their personal preference...

Prepare to spend around $400+ for a NICE M4, as Tys told me once, it's better to get a good aeg so you don't start the sport with headaches with random stuffage... *something like that*
Buying an aeg from a more recognized guy on these forums will probably guarantee a nice reliable gun? lol... My AEG is completely custom built *not by me* and works great...
(And it is better to see it in person before you lay down the $$$ imo) You can go to retailers in Toronto, most guys will let you hold the guns, let you get the *feel of it* and provide basic advice, if you go to their place, some let you test fire it too... hehe

Save up another $200+ for gear? *nice gloves, op rise and shine will require ankle supported boots, good goggles (preferably low profile for to see your sights), knee pads basic clothing, pouches for your mags, extra mags, mag loader, bbs :P*

And you can probably see that vests can get pricey hehe, maybe save up for that after?

Just on another note about other gear (since you've gotten more then enough advice on guns) is used kit in the Sales threads works, most vests are study and last. If your lucky you can get some great bundle deals with BDUs vests, gloves etc.

good luck to you in what ever you decide, and welcome to ASC man, wish more new players where like you.

haha well I've been lurking around asc for a while so I know how it works around here...

as for what people are saying about high initial costs, I do understand that which is why im budgeting lower for the gun and saving other money for gear..

lol my friend has the whole tactical getup with molle vest tons of pouches, boots helmet drop leg etc.. and DOESNT play airsoft...he just likes wakling around the house in full gear haha could probably borrow from him if he decides not to get into airsoft yet...

wait for AV and actually try to get a rental/loaner for Rise and Shine, that way you can go to the game and see what people are using, ask to hold them and fire off a few shots etc. then make your decision, some people there might have guns listed in the classifieds that you can get to check out before buying as well. no rush to buy a gun

Words of advice, give it time, I still haven't gotten my first gun yet and I have been on the forums since september of 09 (i think), atleast now I have enough money saved up to bought more pricey guns. It may be a while till you find someone selling your gun in your price range, then again maybe you'll luck out. Just get Av'ed and see what happens

I say dont just limit yourself to the m4 only.. take a look at others. There's the mp5 series, bulpulp rifles (aug, type 97b, l85, tar), ak's, g3 series (think there pretty rare) and proberly other rifles that I haven't mentioned...

my first gun was a TM MP5 upgraded from the classifieds.

Buying used from a classified from an unknown seller is a risk, ideally you go to a local seller and fondle the AEG first that way there will be no surprises. M4 is really a personal taste, I used to have a shitload of them the only M4 or M4 variants I have left are my GBBR all my AEG have a version3 box just to save me from headaches (Galil, FAL, AK, MP5K) if you want a reliable AEG the best bang for the buck is still a King Arms, VFC, G&P and Classic Army. $400 is a good start but realisticly you should save up and up your spending limits before you know it you'll be looking at around $1000 before you are finished.
That $1000 depends on the AEG you get and all the bells and whistles you're gonna put on the AEG, an M4 is a good example of a money pit, a plain M4 is like little innocent girl but a fully tits up M4 is like a proffesional pornstar in a nerd convention, everyone wants to fondle it.
