So I've got a few lithium ion batteries on my desk. would it be a bad thing to run my aeg on a pair of those?

Yes, it will work.

Don't run 11.1v in a stock AEG though. It's a little too violent.

Ideally, you need either a low voltage cut-off or alarm.

uhhh there is no big difference lol
Slightly different chemistry, slightly different output voltage and charging procedure, but overall the same basic battery with the same care requirements.

You CAN use them, but since airsoft LiPos only cost $6-$40 a battery, there's really no reason not to buy airsoft specific batts

A dc voltage is a do voltage. And will drive. Dc motor.
Regardless of the chemicle makeup.

It's like magic and stuff.

If they're your basic Li-Co cell, you might not get enough amps out of it. They do a max sustained amperage of around 6A? (depends on the capacity)

For what it's worth, theres 3 types of lithium ion batteries: LiCo, LiMn, LiFePO4.

There is actually quite a lot more than that, but most batteries are not made for short-term, high current applications.

If it was designed to power something for more than 1 hour, it won't work. Camera batteries, laptop batteries, cellphone/tablet batteries, emergency lighting batteries etc., are designed for low current over a long period of time.
They most likely will heat and explode if you try to drain more than that, or they simply won't cycle your gun.

For airsoft use, stick to batteries made for RC vehicules or A123 cells (they use them in power tools and some RCs).
