Rust

it seems the metal on my g36 has rusted up. how do i clean it properly? how can i prevent it? the only things that rusted are any of the metal on my G&P K forgrip/outerbarrel and the metal holding the bi-pod.

considering i cant delet this post. could a mod please move it? didnt realize i went so far into the doc's corner.

spray it with silicone oil and if your carefull enough use WD-40. Thats how I take care of the rusts in my Aeg's.

neat little trick is to take out the screws and lube them and then put them back in.

Also painting the said parts will prevent future rust.

A wire brush should remove all rust. I use the one on my grinder for my tools and such.

Steel wool, the 0000 grade. Rub the rust away, then use a light covering of silicone oil.

Avoid WD40 like the plague.

This technique works for any kind of gun, airsoft or real.

If you can get your hands on some CLP that will not only clean but prevent rust.

I would not risk CLP on an airsoft gun. Only use recommended lubricants and methods.

The metal on the G&P outer barrel is just steel isnt it?

You're thinking about real guns and what works on real guns. Airsoft are different animals. Stick with silicone oils and greases. Then even if some seeps into the internal parts of the gun, or onto the plastic and rubber parts/seals, you will have no problem.

There are other threads explaining the reasons in detail. Following the advice is up to you. What I suggested works for airsoft AND real guns.
