Also, the obvious: the silencer doesn't give away your position.

The party on the receiving end knows the direction, just by who was hit, accurately within 90 degrees relative to where they are. The report of the rifle comes after the shot, so they are able to pin down where the shot came with more precision from within the 90 degrees. The silencer keeps them looking. Also, the flash at night is HUGE for the 50. cal. No flash is a big +1.

The main problem is that they can be dirty. Very dirty.
DUDE, new info that rocks.....Thank you. So now it's obviously time for me to research some updated subject material.
The last thing I was up to date on* was a small company changing some AR internals to a "silent" roller bearing system, changing or tweaking something in the gas return system, and using 5.56 sub sonic ammo. The result was something that sound like a crossman BB gun, but had lethal stopping power out to 300 yards.

*Some time just before Surefire started to manufacture silencers.

I think it's the surefire supressor that can be opened and cleaned, or is self cleaning. I don't remember wich one is wich.

And they make supressor for .50 cal HMG.

A nice thing about .50cal sniper rifles, is that at 1000m and beyond, the round is subsonic, so the target does not hear the crack of the bullet comming in. So if you miss, you have more chances to re-engage. Even if the bullet is sub sonic, it can still rip you appart on impact.

BTW, I'm about to finish a book called Trigger Men.
Trigger Men: Shadow Team,Spiderman, The Magnificent…Amazon.ca: Hans Halberstadt: Books
Very good read on many sniper engagements. Some redundant information, but for the casual reader, it will be new and interesting.

Fox, it keeps you from thoughts of separation from Canada, is the only reason it's up there. Call it Canadian propoganda, for cheap.

If Harpen send me the rifle and a year worth of ammo, I promise I'll rethink my political views.

I'll send you the rifle and ammo, as long as you use separatists as "training media".

Is it just me or does that look like a modified r700 or even a rebuild of the m24

Only the forehand have a slight resemblance.
