Of course Steve wants you to buy a pistol
If you're into the M4 style, take a look at the JG416 as a starter gun. Relatively cheap, but still durable enough to get you through a couple seasons with minimal maintence. Upgradable as well and since the price tag is lower than that TM M14, if you decide you're just not that into Airsoft you haven't chucked a chunk of cash down the crapper, and you can probably turn around and sell it. Plus the money you've saved by not buying that side arm or top of the line weapon means you have some money you can put into your 416 for whatever. (red dot, foregrip, extra mags etc.) or gear; boots (good boots a must) goggle, gloves, vest etc.
"War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend: the city of the Men of Numenor, and I would have her loved for her memory, her ancientry, her beauty, and her present wisdom. Not feared, save as men may fear the dignity of a man, old and wise." - J.R.R. Tolkien
