Normally you will get a notice card stating it's being held, and to call the customs number.
You'll get questions like they don't know how to put in the batteries, etc...
Importing real guns rarely take longer than 2 months (usually a couple weeks, depending on inspection unit scheduling), it is only held that long or longer if the customs officer believes there is a problem; documents not matching/adding up, or they/carrier just misplaced the item (happens more often than you'd think).
It isn't that much different with airsoft except that they will call real guns for examination everytime, while airsoft from what I've seen is hit 'or' miss.
