It was -10C and windy. I (the guy in ACU and green softshell) had heavyweight Icebreaker Merino wool longjohns and socks, plus a fleece hoodie under the softshell. As for footwear, I wear Blundstone boots (uninsulated) or X4orce desert boots (uninsulated) with warm socks most of the winter, unless it's really
cold (below -30C ambient) and I have to be outside for more time than it takes to cross a parking lot. Then I pull out either -70C rated Work Wearhouse boots or handmade moose-hide/wool duffel mukluks.
