You didn't have to saw off the front sight... A rail riser or carry handle mount would have done the trick. In any case, you're using a range that's too short to zero. You can still use ShelledPants' instructions, just omit the lining it up with iron sights part. Once the hop is set properly, use paper targets to see where the point of impact of your BBs are and adjust the red dot to meet that.
Without the ironsights... you'd need to strap the gun to a table to match the red dot with the bb impact.
