It sucks, and it's not intentional, but if you're going to play the game without facial protection (as most of of choose to do), then you do so at your own risk and can't complain when you do get a face hit, or more seriously, a broken tooth.
I shot someones tooth out last week. I felt like shit after doing it to. But we all know the inherent risks of the sport. In the end it's our own responsibility to ensure we are wearing the level of face protection that we are comfortable with. As a field host I demand proper eye protection but face and mouth guards are the players choice.
