Age Verifications
As some of you may or may not have noticed, the staff and verifiers of ASC forums have been working hard to get our lists updated and easier to navigate for those of you looking to gain age verifications.
There has been countless hours put into this process, and still more to do (the Ontario and Quebec lists are still a work in progress). Also each province now has an extra point of contact being added to the lists, there is a "Master" AV rep that has stepped forward to help keep the lists and reps updated. In the event you have questions or issues reaching a rep in your region these Master AVers are there to help provide you with additional support in tracking down someone, or redirecting you to you next closest rep. Please visit: http://airsoftcanada.com/forumdisplay.php?f=273 for all your Age Verification needs. |
Thanks!!
I've been watching the posts pop up and seeing the list come together. Thank's for all your hard work guys n gals!! |
This is great news!
Big thanks to all the staff at ASC for doing this! |
Ive been waiting for a month and a half to get AVed... Just want to get some used guns dude..
|
I messaged two age verifiers in Winnipeg, MB. through PM and also through email. I hope they see the messages so I can get Age Verified soon.
|
All lists are now current and updated again thanks to some very diligent and hard work by our head Age Verifiers who stepped up to assist with checking in with their provinces verifiers monthly to ensure they are active and still looking to be on the lists.
Please note we are looking for some additional verifiers in a few regions, if you are in one of these areas please apply as directed in the forum rules and FAQs for review. We have also recently added a few more admins to assist with the verification update process and since they were added most verifications once submitted are being processed within a few days now. Hopefully this helps and reduces some of the drama from the system which is one of the largest in existence and has members not only from within Canada but other countries who have been verified in person to access our buy/sell and age restricted sections. Props to both our volunteer staff force, as well as our membership who makes ASC what it is, a strong source of information/reviews, and hopefully will continue to be into the future. |
Average time from information being submitted to AV tags appearing is currently under 2 days with the new admins assistance and updates to our system.
As of now the only delays is people saying they have asked for verifications but not actually contacted any of the reps in their actual areas....... Read the FAQ and information in the AV regional rep section of the forums, all lists are currently listing only active reps who have confirmed their activity on a mothly basis via check ins. The onus is now completely back on the person wanting to be verifier carrying out their half of the process currently!! Once again huge thanks to our volunteer AV reps and Staff for making a huge step and helping streamline the process again! |
It says that I am age verified, but I cannot reply to any threads in the classified section. I cannot understand why, I am hoping you can help.

Private messaging is the way of the future.

Oh hell, forgot all about that.
Its been a long, long time since I posted anything on ASC classifieds. |
Bumping this thread as I have received 20 PM's in the past 7 days from people all over the place asking for me to verify them with photos over the internet.
ALL VERIFICATIONS ARE DONE IN PERSON ONLY!!!!! Stop PM'ing me trying to bypass this as I'm going to start handing out infractions for people being too DAMNED LAZY TO READ and trying to cheat the system. |

Reminder Age Verifications are only Done IN PERSON!! Stop trying to bypass the system as it is the system that those here enforce and uphold.
Sending PM's like this: Quote:
Just because you look old enough means jack shit especially online, make up and shit can make anyone look older. Hell when I was 14 with zero help from prosthesis/make up and such, I was buying booze and smokes with ease because I looked old enough! In Person Only means In Person ONLY! |
Also it takes away the anonymity and makes you part of the community. Verifying age is just part of it.
|

Ouch, I feel for you admins having to constantly put up with this.
Maybe make it so that new accounts can't access anything until they read the AV FAQ thread? And do a quiz on it? :P (Maybe not the quiz) |

If I could make a suggestion...
Maybe we could have a sticky on the front page that stands out for new forum visitors. It would be a lot more helpful than the ASC facebook post or the one about hotmail... that space is really underutilized I feel and for the past 1+ year that space has been used for the Rememberance day name change donation event that happened about 2 years ago. I found a lot of the forums to be super user unfriendly. It's hard to find rules since it's stickied under "asc news and announcements" rather than the NEWB TANK which was my first instinct to browse when I first started. Why would someone new to the forums look into the news and announcements when they want to get basic information about how to use the site? When I first joined I had to sift through 20+ pages before I had to learn about an actual AVer from word of mouth in-person. For people who know how to navigate the forums, this isn't a problem for people like you or me. For people who are new to the forums, the forums should be able to detect when a new IP accesses the site and a pop-up should prompt to advise the user to read the rules and actually lead people where they want to go. This thread in particular: http://airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=88238 has a hyperlink to the following under "getting age verified" http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=11474 It's dead. No wonder newbies are having a hard time! Old threads need to be purged or cleaned up/updated. Volunteers need to be recruited. The site is really old and needs a good update in general. |

Everything else in my previous post though.. still stands. Forums need a lot of cleaning up and reorganizing. |
well the rules are in the FAQ section and stickied there, as it a FAQ about age verifications with active links which is also stickied.
This thread and another in the news section are also stickied already. Want to retype a few of the others and have time go for it, then PM me the thread link and the modified version, I will gladly copy and paste it in. You talk about volunteers, a lot of our volunteer base is from the AVers, which as we get to know them more usually are ones who then get asked about becoming moderators for ones we see super active and doing little extras behind the scenes. Why have you not volunteered yet? |

The forums as they are leave a lot to be desired. For example, over and over again we have posts regarding the purpose of age verification and why it's a self governance decision but they never explain to my satisfaction exactly WHY that is and WHAT. Follow the train of thought: what is AV and why do I need it? I'll click on this link: http://airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=162068 It will tell me to read the following: http://airsoftcanada.com/forumdisplay.php?f=273 (links back to the AV province page gives no info to me at all what's there) -> then i will click on this: http://airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=162052 The page then reads: ... The regional representative will look at your ID, ensure you are who you say you are, that you are 18 years of age or older, and record your REAL name, Date of Birth, AND your ASC USER NAME. but one thing that I found crucial that was missing was citing an actual statute/law. This is the compelling part. People need to know that this is a law abiding forum and not some identity theft ring... For example: http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/bills/bil...t=&BillID=2493 That is the bill that cites that one must be 18 to buy an airsoft gun. That being said I volunteer with other organizations but it is volunteering my free time and ASC isn't something I would like to advertise in its current state. I have close friends who were active in the airsoft scene and decided not to get AV. As an onlooker from outside the forums, the site does look shady AF sometimes, especially when someone is either young or unfamiliar with the mannerisms of the internet... it's very intimidating to meet people online. As for finding you dead links and obtaining modified links... I have no idea how to do that. I referenced this ASC link earlier: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=11474 that was retrieved from http://airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=88238 under #3... that post was from 2009 and I have no context as to where that thread leads. Another stickied post: http://airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=93431 dead link in thread indicating "click here for help": http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=49408 tl;dr Right now I'm not saying that the AV system sucks or that I don't want to be an AVer. Believe me I wanted to apply since day 1 when I rode my bike to Colin_S' house but I knew I had to be more known in the community before applying. Right now I feel the forums need more moderators than AVer's and cleaning up dead threads has been a neglected priority because there's just TOO MUCH INFORMATION and not enough time to read it all. |
so basically you are a nit picker and look for reasons to fight the system. nuff said, dont bother volunteering, but at the same time save your excuses for someone else.
|
It's called volunteering not conscription... You get to choose which organization you want to volunteer for. So sure you can call it not picking but at the end of the day I don't get paid and I'm volunteering my time. And because it is my time I get to choose autonomously where to spend it.
Over the years I've noticed a lot of hostility to new forum members... Keeping them away, getting upset over asking stupid questions. There's even a sticky in the newbie tank that you've essentially crucified to send a message to others about how not to ask questions. What kind of impression does that give to new users? In the AV faq section you basically went 0 to 100 and flamed a Non-av member for stating facts. Sure he was too lazy but there's a WAY and time and place to say that he was lazy. And, as always, your kind comments are welcome. Thanks for letting me know as well as the community that criticism is not welcome. |
Maybe we need a couple special millennial age versifiers who are trained to work in safe spaces.

So I just noticed i have a neat little subtitle under my name... very classy Bloodsport or whoever gave it to me. Even though this argument was almost a month old you decided to update it just now.
I thought I would just leave things alone but you go ahead and try to catch my attention with this so sure, I'll bite. Honestly, do you WANT me to volunteer? In the last post you tell me to volunteer. The post before that you tell me NOT to volunteer. For the past two weeks I've been waking up at 5 am and getting on a bus and in my spare time reporting all the cialis/money laundering bots that have been spamming the forums. Not your fault really, and it's not a permanent solution. But that was what you suggested wasn't it? To volunteer my time and help report the spam? Yet I'm greeted with a neat title like this. Seriously bloodsport I'm getting some really mixed messages here about whether or not you actually want me on your team because right now I'm open to becoming an AV'er or moderator. BUT considering how management treats new members and current members, I'm more than a little skeptical about my voluntary involvement being greeted with open arms. It's your forums so of course you get the final say. I'm okay with helping out but if you're going to be petty about it then i'm out. |
